We just wanted to make it interesting on the final day of the regular season. The last part of that sentence made me really sad.

Agreed. There was no call for that. Let him finish the year, then tell him, and then the public.

By the way, great ending for the Mets. I think every player got into the game. He pulled Alonzo out during the inning, so he could get applause from the crowd. Bullpen blows the lead, giving up back to back home runs, then Dominic Smith, on the first pitch he's seen after being on the IL for two months (and hitting in Alonzo's spot), wins the games on a home run.

By the way, one thing you have to look for - remember Adeiny Hechavaria - was cut cut by the Mets the day before qualifying for a million dollar roster bonus (granted, they had several players come off the IL on that day, so they had to make a move)? He hit two home runs in he game. Rounding the bases on the second one, he was quite unsuccessful in hiding a #$_&# eating grin.

Aw man! That seems vindictive. I’ll never understand missteps like that. Team image goes a long way toward attracting players and selling tickets.
