he's no bueno, but he's no bauer. and at least he admitted other teams were cheating as well in '17. most everyone else tried their best to point fingers elsewhere and sweep it under the rug. always sucks to see someone injured, but i won't miss him ...
Mets have won 14 out of 16, are 33 games over .500, Vogelbach is already delivering (2 HRs, a bunch of RBIs, and he's drawn 10BBs in just 14 games. He even scored from first standing up on a double. Meat can move!), and Alonso is 5th in homers and second only to Judge for RBIs in the NL. McCann is back catching and throwing peas to second, and deGrom is not only back, he just sat down 17 straight. Added bonus: Making the Braves ace rookie cry.

I figured the Mets would have started Metsing by now… but after over 100 games they have the second best win % in the entire league. So, I guess it's not just a hot start and then a collapse this year. These are the Bizarro Mets.
1-0 in 13 innings! Mariners fan buddy of mine and his lady friend came in to the bar last night late in the game so I joined them and it was quite a rollicking defensive masterpiece. That double play by Frazier was nuts!

It's going to start getting late pretty early here if the Jays don't get it together… Please Baseball Gods don't make me cheer for Seattle this postseason…

The Mariners get shelled in a game, then squeak out wins in two more. If they keep that up, their runs for/against is going to be as bad as last year, but they will make the playoffs finally. Then some other city can wear the drought crown.
They are getting a little ahead of themselves, though. Haniger said he thinks this is a team that can even win a World Series. While anything is possible, he shouldn't be testing the baseball gods with hubris. I like his confidence, though.

just an aside, but i still get confused over these 6-team league playoffs. seems like as far as playoff seedings go, the higher-ranked team that has to play a wild card team is gonna have a real fight on their hands. much better to be the team playing the central winner methinks ...
The AL Central is a pretty weak division. Whoever wins it is in for a rude awakening in the ALDS (like how the White Sox flamed out in the ALDS last fall).
I must say, I am not feeling very confident about the Blue Jays right now. They're still in the first WC spot because they have two fewer losses than Seattle, even though Seattle has one more win. But it hasn't been a great start here in August--two losses this week in Baltimore really stung--and they've been so inconsistent all season long. Overall they don't have a great record against teams that are above .500. They can beat up on bad teams, as they should, but they need to be better against the good teams or they will start falling down in the WC race. They are about to start a string of 10 games against Cleveland, Baltimore (who are now trying to join the WC race--they're actually kinda good!), and New York. Lose a bunch of these games and that could be the season. It feels like the playoffs start right now

So is the NL Central. The Cards lead but would be 4th in the East and 3rd in the West. Just not a good year for Centrals.
Yeah, I noticed that looking at the standings earlier. The NLC is basically just down to the Cards and Brewers--wow the Cubs, Pirates, and Reds have had bad seasons! Any team out of the Twins, White Sox, or Guardians could still win the ALC. The Twins have spent the most time in the lead IIRC, but Cleveland is ahead now, and Chicago took a turn holding 1st place for a few days earlier on in the season. They all play each other a few more times before the end of the season so it could be a fun race. In the NLC the race between Milwaukee and St. Louis ought to be exciting too.
I feel the same way about the Mariners. They just took two series against the Yankees, but the Astros spanked them hard in a couple as well. And they split with the Angles, who they should have stepped all over. Now they are in Texas to play the Rangers. That's another series they should have no problems with. Their bats have been asleep. Lewis is back, but he hasn't got his timing yet, so he got sent down for a bit. Rodriguez will be back this series, and I sure hope he picks up where he left off with no dropoff. Kelenic was supposed to be the can't miss prospect, but so far, he's whiffed badly at the plate. There's some pleasant surprises, but some big disappointments and low batting averages in the lineup. Haniger is back and seems to be on it in a way that will really help things along. France has cooled a bit. Crawford is in the .250 range, which is reasonable for a shortstop. Pitching seems like it's going to be what gets the Mariners through. They are walking a few more batters now for some reason, but they get outs when they need to. And the fielding has been very good as well. If they make it into the playoffs, they could be a sleeper team in short series. They could also fall apart like they did at the tail end of last season.
