FINALLY my team starts showing some signs of life.

The Jays won a game! The scored six runs! One win isn't good enough to fool me into being hopeful again, but at least it is a good sign. Having Stripling back in action is a wonderful thing. This was his first start back after an IL stint and he was perfect through five or six innings. A very efficient outing. 6.1 IP, only one hit, 7 strikeouts, 72 pitches total (52 strikes!). At the start of the season, Stripling was a long-man in the 'pen / swing starter---now he is easily #3 in the rotation. Please don't get hurt again.

good explanation. i get it. defense gives up a (meaningless to them) base, like an ibb.

it just looks funny :cool: and how he waits for the umps to make the call. :cool: c'mon, umps! sure we're up 7 runs, but keep your head in the game!

i mean, whose call is that anyway? i think the home plate ump was waiting on the 2nd base ump to make the call, so as not to show them up. cease was waiting, bregman was waiting, they all knew the rule right away ... obtw the sooner larussa is out of baseball, the better.

with all the moves the angels and rangers made going into this season, it's the mariners that advanced. and now the rangers are blowing it all up, for the third time 8-) i'd like to see the m's make the playoffs, and hope i don't regret it.

They will both be in. There's only a game and a half between the three teams who are currently in, and only about another game to the teams that are right there. The schedule is favorable for the Mariners, since they aren't playing winning teams much over the next month and a half. They could still blow it. I'm optimistic anyway. I got optimistic last season, and they broke my heart the last week of the season. I hope they wait to break my heart until sometime in the playoffs. I don't have high hopes for a ring. The fact that there are any hopes this deep into August is great. Their pitching means they could be a sleeper in the playoffs. If their hitting ever comes to life, defense and pitching, which they have plenty of, ought to take them pretty deep.

Ugh, I think I am officially a Mariners believer now :bag: They played to a .720 win % in July, and they're keeping up the winning ways here in August (.625 so far). They also have a fairly soft schedule to close out the season. Probably close 30 of their 43 games remaining are against the likes of the Angels, A's, Rangers, Tigers, Royals, and Nats. They are well poised to run away with the 1st WC spot. The division is out of reach unless Houston really collapses, but locking up the WC spot will still be nice.

Speaking of divisions being out of reach: A few weeks back, everybody figured the Yanks had the ALE locked down. They've been playing quite poorly for a few weeks now, and it has been absolutely killing me that the Jays haven't been able to gain any ground. Toronto has been almost unwatchable for a stretch here. They're starting a four-gamer in NY today. Imagine if they were going there only 4 or 5 games back instead of 10 like they are now! Huge opportunity missed. And, knowing my luck, the Yankees will return to form and crush the Jays this weekend... Please, Baseball Gods, don't allow it to happen :crying:

^^ so this weekend, geddy, that there giraffe, and i are jays fans. :cool: hey, they gave springer a contract. bet he doesn't get cursed every road game. and speaking of the yanks ... they got a VERY favorable schedule to start their season. they are paying the price for that now. and seriously, +25 wins at home, +3 wins on the road, and no one blinks an eye...

I am so happy for Jose Berrios tonight. He's had a rough season. Pitched into the 7th, nice movement on his pitches. Held NYY to 1 run, and got good run support from the Jays' bats. Two innings to go!

edit: 5 hit night for Springer!

edit part two: Kikuchi pitched a clean (well, no runs!) inning for his first time out of the 'pen in the 8th, and then Romano pitched a very quick 9th. Jays win!

I'm doing voodoo ceremonies hoping for an Astros collapse. This really has a 1995 feel to it. The whole refuse to lose, two outs, so what thing.

I don't like the Yankees at all. When they fail, it makes me smile.
