I'd say the Jays best rivalry is actually the Tigers, though that rivalry has been sorely neglected by the unbalanced schedule since the switch to three E/C/W divisions in the 90's, with Toronto in the ALE and Detroit in ALC. Back in the good ol' days of just two divisions...

Frankly, I think it's good to have more of a balanced schedule. Not only does it make things more fair for the WC slots, but I'd like to see other teams more often.

agreed. i'd be fine with getting rid of the divisions, have a balanced schedule, and take the top 6 teams from each league...

More teams are trying to do this - sign young stars to long contracts guaranteeing them enough money so they will not risk free agency down the road. Long term it will keep contracts from continuing to explode in money, so it's good for the teams, and in most cases, it's smart for the player. Yeah, they might not make a billion dollars, but if their arms explode before then, they still are rich (you think Michael Conforto doesn't wish he had signed?).

No. Bonilla had already signed the FA contract. The Mets just thought because of the Madoff ponzi, they could make enough money to pay it off. I'm talking about clubs signing young major leaguers (or even in some cases, minor leaguers) to surprising large contracts. Think Ozzie Albies.

Playing the Tigers seems to be the cure for a lot of batting problems. It was yesterday, anyway. I sure hope that continues for a couple more days. Then on to Cleveland. The Mariners took three of four from them in Seattle last week. I'll be happy with two of three in Cleveland. That's not being greedy, is it?

Football season starts this weekend, and I am not paying any attention. The Mariners are winning, and football doesn't matter.

Ugly loss for the Jays against the Cubs last night. It's the little things that keep this team from truly being good. A series win is still nice, but they just got swept by the Angels before this, and the two wins against the Cubs weren't exactly easy or convincing. The little voice in my head wondering, "Are the Jays actually just a bad team?" is getting louder and louder these days After an off-day today, they play a series in Pittsburgh. If they lose more than one of those games, I will probably lose my mind. Most importantly though, Toronto still has 10 games left against Baltimore, and 9 games against Tampa. Win against Baltimore and you keep them out of the Wild Card. Win against Tampa and you hopefully improve your position in the WC standings. These are all going to be very important games.

The good news is that the Yankees are also losing games to the Angels, and overall NYY was 10-18 in August. Even if the Jays are absolutely frustrating, I can take some comfort in watching the Yankees struggle...
