Any time the Yankees tank, the world is a better place. The Mariners swept Detroit. But, that's Detroit. On to Cleveland. Win that series in Cleveland and I will have a lot of hope for them this season. Their batting averages have been so bad all season that they still look awful now that they are hitting a bit.

Pretty much lost hope for the SFGiants this year. Hard to make it to the playoffs when you lose seven ballgames in a row. The Giants picking up players off the scrapheap from other teams is starting the wear thin. Worked last season but this is another year.
On a positive note Joey Bart is getting better. Can only hope they have some good talent in the minors that can be bought up next year.

Another 3 in a row for the Mets! Diaz was so pissed at giving up that run the other night breaking his streak, poor Lux got himself absolutely posterized out of his batting helmet swinging at a 103mph pitch that was already in the glove. Dude was already having the singular worst night of his career, 2 errors and a lack of hustle that cost a run, but Diaz made him look like a tee ball player with the fastest pitch of his career. Brutal!

The Mariners were in Cleveland. An extra inning win after a four hour rain delay and now they have a mid-afternoon start in Seattle today. The logistics of that are mind boggling to me, let alone how much it probably takes out of the players. I hope they have an easy game today. And keep winning. They managed to win last night. They are only ten games back of Houston on Labor Day. Where is Bone to fire 'em up? Not that they seem to need him.

Don't look now, but the Jays are on a little five-game winning streak. They got the sweep in Pittsburgh and then won both games of the double-header in Baltimore yesterday (two very important wins!). They still have two games left in this series in Baltimore, so I really hope they pick up at least one more win. Today might be tough with the 5th starter (Mitch White) as the probable starter. He's struggled since coming over from the Dodgers. But they have Manoah going tomorrow, and I have a lot of confidence in him. They've also started hitting the ball over the fence much more in the last week or so. That is reassuring to see. Even if White pitches poorly today, if they bullpen can keep them in it, then I think the lineup can score enough to win anyway.

interesting look at the standings this morning. seems the playoff teams are almost set. there are 4 teams vying for 3 spots in the a.l.; the orioles are outside looking in. the n.l. is a bit murkier; 3 teams vying for the last spot, with the brewers chasing the phillies and padres. all others are 6 games out or more ...also, i reckon both washington and oakland face postseason elimination today.

The Mariners were tired on Monday, but looked to be back on it yesterday. If they can keep it up and go toe to toe with Atlanta, I'll really believe they are a good team. At this point, they are almost assured of a playoff spot. Almost. An epic collapse could knock them out. I'm not sure, but they might have the best record in baseball, once they got past their awful start that put them ten games below .500.
