MLB 2022

looks like the playoff teams are just about set; still three teams fighting for the last two n.l. wild card spots, and there's also three teams fighting for the al central spot.

so how many teams get to 100 wins this season? my over/under is 3.5, i'm taking the over

So the Giants won the NL West Division last year with 107 wins. Hard for me to fathom how they can be 30-1/2 games back in the span of just one season. Someone must have hit a self destruct button in San Fransisco.

Don't rub it in. :mad:. ;) We just lost another game to your team. The Giants can't continue to build their team on player picked off the MLB scrap pile. Hopefully they will make some positive changes in the off season.

Not rubbing it in as I kind of feel bad for team. It was good for the game and a lot more fun to watch the long time Dodger-Giants rivalry when the two teams were closer in standings. I kind of miss that.

The AL WC race is still very tight! The Jays and Rays both went 2-1 over the weekend. It's a shame the Jays couldn't finish off the O's yesterday. It was a winnable game but the bullpen blew it.

Gaolee's Mariners have picked an interesting time to drop games to the Angels! But finishing as the 6th seed and facing off against the ALC winner in the first round of the postseason might not be such a bad thing.

The one thing about the Mariners is that they seem to play up or down to the competition. At the moment, they are missing two key components - Rodriguez and Saurez. It has been the Julio and Geno show for the last month or so. When both are out, it's a big problem. They are good when they are hitting on all cylinders, and they have good pitching most of the time. But, they are thin, unlike really good teams that don't fall off much when somebody goes down. They are still a couple players having good seasons away from being a true powerhouse.

Mets clinch their spot with a win tonight, and Max Scherzer returns to the mound. They won last night even though deGrom gave up 3. Bats are coming alive, McNeil is challenging for the title, and Escobar is absolutely en fuego. Batting like .350 since coming back from IL end of August, with 6 homers.

Side note, went to the last home Sunday game for the Syracuse Mets yesterday. Glorious afternoon with a 1:05 first pitch. On my way in there was a charity with an info booth set up that I used to do some work for, so I stopped to drop a donation in their bucket and say hello. The attendant says "want a bobblehead?", I asked if they were just giving them away and she says "yup! Free bobble for any donation." I added another $10 to what I had already given and took the toy and it was Jerry Koosman! Next to Seaver one of my fav Mets pitchers of all time, and one of the last to hit over .300. Jerry went 21-10 in 1976. Imagine one of today's 5-6 inning woosies having 31 decisions, let alone 21 wins.
Added bonus! When I get in the gate I am offered a choice of one of two paired bobbles Amed Rosario (with Cleveland now I think?), and Robinson Cano (last a yankee I think, but currently DFA). I picked Cano, but near the end of the game I ground scored a Rosario completing the set. When put next to each other, they are high 5ing over 2nd base. Neither player means anything to me, but that is still a pretty cool chotchke haul for my shelf.

My grandfather had seasons tickets, I saw a bunch of games as a kid. Koosman, Kingman, Eddie Kranepool, got to see Seaver pitch twice, it was a big part of my childhood. As I said, I know the people at the charity (Foodbank CNY). I don't think they gave them all away before they broke down before first pitch. I would have no problem calling and seeing if they would be willing to slide me one for another small donation.

Lindor goes slam and Mets win again, but so does ATL. Lead remains at 1 game, great fun to watch both teams. Funny how the Mets coverage on the national stage all sounds like "Well, they SHOULD be winning", but the Braves coverage all sounds like "The AMAZING Braves win AGAIN!"

A lot of speculation deGrom wants to opt out and go to Atlanta, but watching the players in the dugout he is all Met. We'll see what happens next year, but I don't think anybody in that club house gives a crap about what happens next year right now, even Jacob. The "team first" vibe is tangible through the whole line-up, and if Buck isn't manager of the year they shouldn't bother giving out the trophy. Gonna make roster cut down brutal, besides Ruf. The best thing he ever did for the Mets was pitch 4 outs.
