MLB 2023

Looks like the Jays will be signing Bassitt. He should be a nice addition to the team. I wonder if they'll be able to keep Stripling around as well...

There was also this kinda weird and interesting three-team deal today. The Braves get a good catcher from the A's in Sean Murphy. Seems like kind of a lot to get just one player back, but he is a very good catcher and there aren't many of those guys around.

With all the money going around for these big time starters, I am shocked the Mets couldn't find a deal with Bassitt. Guy ate some serious innings for the Mets, especially covering for injuries and missed starts from the big stars. Not unhappy with any deal so far but this one, so I can't really complain.

The Brewers did well in that deal. An all-star catcher whose batting average and OPS was better than anyone on the team last year and a couple pitchers for a minor league outfielder. Ruiz was one of the players we got for Hader, so that deal is looking a little better.

Cubs finalizing deal with Swanson

The Cubs are “very close” to a deal with shortstop Dansby Swanson, and are expected to finalize the deal shortly, NBC Sports Chicago’s David Kaplan reports (via Twitter). The contract is a seven-year, $177MM deal that includes a full no-trade clause, according to Russell Dorsey of Bally Sports (Twitter link).

Good job by Swanson to have his career year right before free agency. IMHO this is too much money and too many years for a 28 year old player who only has one really good season under his belt, but you never know. If he keeps playing as well as he did in 2022 for three or four more years, then it could be a great deal for the Cubs.

Gotta say I love the Turner signing. As long as he doesn't suddenly become Jimmy Rollins :)

I love his speed, his bat and his ability to move to 2nd or the outfield if the club wants him there. Just a really nice acquisition. If you're gonna drop 300m, it needs to be on a guy like Turner.
