Frustrating weekend for Jays fans..! :| At least they eked out one win.

It's unfortunate re: Stanton. Injuries (and Father Time) have not been super kind to him. Watching his at-bats last season against Toronto, it looked to me like he was just behind on everything. I think he's lost some bat speed. It's sad to see considering he was one of my favourite hitters to watch during the Marlins years. I'm sure he could still be a somewhat productive hitter for NY but it might requiring selling out for power and starting the swing earlier. Low average but hopefully more homers.

It's early and there's lots of ball left to play! The M's can turn it all around in a week. Having said that, I totally know that feeling :-/ I didn't have super high hopes for Toronto this summer given how tough the division is and their struggles in 2023... I was expecting perhaps a 4th place finish in the AL East, maybe 3rd if the Rays' falter... It doesn't feel good to see the Red Sox in 2nd place in the division at 7-3 right now. I thought I could count on them to be the last place team! :laugh: But if they have one of those "We thought they'd be bad but they're actually good" kind of years then Toronto is really in tough---and maybe a last place team.

Here in Denver the Nuggets and Avalanche have been championship contenders the last few years, and no one can see them in Denver until they get to playoffs that are carried on broadcast networks. Stan Kronke has been at war with the local networks and only airs the games on a small network (Altitude) he controls. It's bonkers to have contending teams that can't be seen my many of their home fans.

That’s how it was when the Dodgers went with Time Warner/Sports Net, now Spectrum. About 60% of the market couldn’t get the games. It was crazy. They have a deal with Direct TV now so it’s better. But a whole lot of SoCal is still without all the games.

The good thing for the Mariners is that the Astros have been thoroughly mortal so far. And Texas is using up all its wins early. That's what I'm telling myself anyway.

Tonight is the Jays home opener! I really enjoyed the tribute to Luis Rivera during the pre-game. It was fun to see him toss out the first pitch to Vladdy. New ballpark renovations look quite nice. I hope to get out there for a game sometime this summer... Now, here's hoping they can win a few games against the M's this week and get into some kind of rhythm.

There is a lot of excitement about Blake Snell's first start for the Giants tonight. I not going to get to amped up over it. Snell was acquired shortly before the end of spring training so he hasn't had much time to prepare, plus he usually takes a while to get going. April is not his best month. They will probably have a short leash on him tonight. I fully expect him to be a great pitcher this year but won't get too concerned if he doesn't do well to start. He will come around.
BTW he struck out two batters in the first inning.

I figure MLB will own all television and streaming rights for all teams within a decade. When that happens you will be able to get an all-inclusive package for ALL games with no blackout restrictions.

Jays win their home opener. Yay! Berrios has been incredible to start 2024. Another great start. And the lineup managed to string some hits together for once.

Today Bassitt gets the start. He's been quite bad in his first two starts. Could be just what the M's hitters need to get going! :laugh: I hope the Jays keep him on a short leash and pull him early if his struggles continue. It's funny, last winter I was more pessimistic about the Bassitt signing. Then he pitched great last summer and I grew to like him quite a bit. Now I'm changing my mind again...

They at least had some hard hit balls last night. Unfortunately, most of them were hit right into the defense. Except the two that went over the fence :eek: I have no idea why Cal Raleigh mashes so hard against the Jays. Homered again last night. In only 13 games total vs. Toronto (49 plate appearances) he's hitting .283/.306/.826 with 8 HR. .826 slugging! Oof.

They certainly aren't hitting it where they ain't for now. It will even out over a season. I'm pretty concerned about the pitching, although that's also a matter of things evening out over the course of a season. The Mariners have a history of being snakebit by inches.

It's unfortunately been a little while now since Bryant was a good run producer. His RBI totals over the last several years are not super impressive. He tends to not play a lot of games either. And he's getting $27 million / year until 2029 :eek:

I was surprised by Castillo's performance last night. Looks like the previous two starts weren't great either. He was missing his spots by a lot.
