MLB 2024

Kudos to the ASG uni designers! Not many would have the courage to attempt a mash-up of Little League and 16" softball designs but they powered through and came up with . . . that. I think they missed an opportunity to promote local businesses, though; imagine if the AL uni's had ads instead of players names . . .

I've got lots of good friends that are Cubs fans and even White Sox fans. I have yet to visit Busch Stadium for a game but I usually enjoy Wrigley when the Cards are in town. IME Cards fans tend to be pretty knowledgeable about baseball in general and can be fun to engage in convo's at the park. I once sat next to a group up from St. Louis; they explained they were teachers and always took a group trip on the Amtrak up for a weekend series to enjoy Chicago and baseball. Of course this was back before interleague play and "balanced" schedules when MLB knew enough to make sure there was AT LEAST one weekend series in both cities.

I never hated the Cards or their fans. I hated that the Cubs were always LOSING to them!

IME there is, unfortunately, plenty of obnoxious fans to go around including Cubs fans I've seen where I think "Damn, I *really* wish he wasn't on my side".

Thinking about various fans that DO tend to rub me wrong at the ballpark (these are, of course, broad generalizations that are probably very unfair. Sue me!) . . .

Yankees fans. EVERYTHING is better in NY. How do I know? Because they will tell you even though you didn't ask. For every. single. thing. Yeah, yeah, your team is better. Your stadium's better. Your subway's better. Even your muggers are better, I GET IT!

Braves fans. It's nice you lifted the tomahawk chant from FSU without attribution but realize that after the 13th or so time it wears a little thin. But thanks for not showing up at your OWN playoff games all those years where I could fly down and pick up seats, cheap, and stay with my sister for free.

Mets fans. 'nuff said.
I was a Mets fan while living in New York 40 years ago or so. I hated the Yankees and their fans. There are lots of divides and lots of friction in New York, but if you wanted to really get into an altercation, the way to do it was walk into a Yankees bar and loudly mention that AL and the Yankees weren't real baseball because of the DH. While wearing a Mets hat. KABOOOM! Best to be really fast or really big if you did something like that.

Yeah, some people just hate being told the TRUTH!

This prompted me to comment that I'm a life-long Cubs fan, and my wife and I took a train trip up to Milwaukee from Indianapolis a few years ago. We caught a game at then-MIller Park against the Cubs. The Brewers fans seated around us were warm and fun and made the experience that much better. We talked a bit of good-natured trash but nobody was a child about it. It helps that I'm not one of Those Cubs Fans I guess, but we had a really good time.
You are a great example of Cub fans I've known and the ones I met at Wrigley. I've seen you guys suffer through some awful seasons, but never wavered in your fandom. I was genuinely happy for the fans when they won the Series, and my friends didn't understand.

The Rockies are 34-63, and I don't pay much attention (due to a lack of masochism, I suppose) except to note that they do actually have some players who are occasionally capable of hitting a bat with a ball. I'm rooting for them to lose 100 this year.

And in keeping with their emphasis of having the stadium as the draw instead of the team, they've announced that we can play golf inside the park this fall.

It really does seem that people go to experience the stadium and buy expensive beers on a Colorado afternoon or evening. What the team does is less relevant.

It’s actually tomorrow night that the games get going again—not tonight. I wish it was Friday already!
Yeah, I looked it up after trying to figure out why there were no scores. Bizarre! There's usually just one day off before and one day off after the all-star game. Or maybe I'm just confused. That's a possibility.

Sounds like Rockies fans are being trained a little differently from Mariners and Cubs fans. A summer without suffering and disappointment would seem empty and forlorn to a proper Mariners fan.

Cubs already back to work . . . losing to the Dbacks. I tried to watch the HR Derby, but couldn't last through the 1st half of the 1st round. How can they make what was once a captivating event so boring? Switched back to ASG periodically during commercials on Rockford Files reruns until Shota was pitching; watched his 1/2 inning then went back to Rockford.

Friday - Dbacks @ Cubs, bottom of 8th bases loaded with nobody out. 1 run (Happ sac fly).
Saturday - Dbacks @ Cubs, bottom of 5th with men on 2nd and 3rd, nobody out. No runs.
In first 2 games of 1st series after ASG Cubs are 2 for 15 with RISP and 20 LOB. :(
Through 100 games Cubs are 47-53; in 2023 they were 49-51. Main differences this year are a MUCH more effective starting pitching staff and an actual 1st baseman to start the season (vs 2 aging discards that were both eventually released during the season) . . . and the highest paid manager in MLB history. I like Craig Counsell and all but in a results-based business when you are THE highest paid person doing your job you need to expect to be asked some pointed questions. So why does the media appear to be giving him a free pass? History shows the team probably could have done at least this "good" with Ross still as mgr for far less $$.

The Jays have lost two in a row to Detroit coming out of the All-Star break. Bo is back on the IL having injured his calf again. They are now tied 4-4 about halfway through today’s game. Have to expect them to blow it somehow and lose. They were up 3-0 early in the game and Detroit has already evened the score. I am legit curious to see what goes down at the deadline — then it’s going to be a long August and September of meaningless games 🤣
