MLB 2024

“I don’t know what’s going to happen, it’s out of my control, but if this was my last (start), I just want to say I love the team, love the city, love all the fans,” Kikuchi said via his interpreter Yusuke Oshima. “Hopefully it’s not it.”

Kikuchi is potentially a good trade chip for Toronto but I’m going to be sad if they ship him out 😢

He has pitched really well this year.

The Giants have dropped two in a row to the Rockies since the break. Not a good start to the second half.
There was something bad in the water. The Mariners dropped two in a row to drop behind the Astros. They had ten games on the Astros and wasted that lead. They won yesterday to pull back into a first place tie. I'll be nervous until they start hitting. They haven't done that all season, none of them. Ty France is the first casualty of the no bats disease. He was hitting better than Mitch Garver. I suppose Garver is also a backup catcher, so there's that. But he sure can't hit this year.

Jays beat the Rays. Feels good. It was tied up 2-2 late and Toronto put four (!) runs on the board in the bottom of the 8th 😳 Don't see that too often with this team. They ought to do it more. The talent is there.

The baseball media rumour mill says the Jays are focused on trading players on expiring deals, which includes Yusei Kikuchi, Yimi Garcia, Trevor Richards, and Danny Jansen. Kikuchi or Garcia could legit help a team that is short on pitching. I could see somebody overpaying a bit for Garcia. Richards has mostly been solid for the Jays 'pen since they picked him up in 2021, but he's a change-up guy and not necessarily suited to high leverage / late inning work like Garcia. Jansen is a bit more of a lottery ticket. Hasn't been hitting well lately, though he certainly has shown in the past that he's a capable hitter. And he gets hurt too frequently. I'm not sure how many competing teams are looking to add another catcher, but maybe somebody takes a chance on him to add some more pop to the catcher position in their lineup.

From now 'til the deadline we're on "hug watch." I will be happy for anybody who gets traded, especially if they have a chance to make a postseason run which obviously is not happening in Toronto this year... but another part of me just wants all these dudes to keep being Blue Jays.

Braves gave up another one inexplicably. In just a week the 2nd place buffer in the East went from 4 to 2 games to the Mets. And tomorrow we fly away for a 4 game series that is critical. Well, it's critical for the Mets, Braves don't give a hoot.
I hear all the complaints about the weather but the teams that beat us don't have different weather.
Snitker has been making terrible decisions since April.

Everything came together yesterday for the Giants to finally take one from the Dodgers. Robbie Ray looked great in his comeback from Tommy John surgery. He pitched five innings, allowed one earned run with 8 k's and two walks. The rest of the pitching staff looked good only allowing two more earned runs with no walks and two more K's. Ohtani struck out three times. Lately that wouldn't have been enough for a win but the bats woke up last night scoring 8 runs. One game is not a lot but in a season like the Giants are having I can celebrate the small victories.

@Gaolee the M’s aren’t looking so hot coming out of All-Star 😬 1-5 at home against the Astros and Angels.

Ooof. Ooof. Ooof. And another ooof.

My son and daughter-in-law are in town. We went down to the park to watch a game night before last and the ticket computer crashed. So, we went to a bar. At least it was cheaper. It would have been depressing to have paid for tickets and then suffered through the one inning defensive melt-down the Mariners had.

Julio is on IR. JP is on IR. France is gone. The pitching is holding up, but if you can't score runs, pitching won't save you. I hope this is a temporary malaise that they will get through.

This has largely been the story for Toronto since the start of last season. It’s not fun! Once the boys are down one or two runs, even if there are still innings left to play, I can’t help but think, “They can’t possibly come back from this!” 🤣 Trailing by two runs might as well be ten runs. I feel bad for the pitchers. They have to try to be perfect most nights. It was a pleasant surprise to see the Jays score six runs last night. Four all in one inning!!! 🤯

The Jays should fire Atkins, Shapiro and Edward Rogers! They've had ten years to re-build and the only thing they have re-built, is the dome and practice centre in Florida. Seriously BAD trades have left this team toothless and in doing so, have torn the heart out of the players. Oh yah, don't forget to can the manager as well! Management jumped the shark!

Of course the Braves give a hoot. Take a look at the WC standings - plenty of teams within a game or 2 of getting a spot.
Gap now 0.5 games ahead of the Mets.

If we can somehow cling to a WC spot late it will require our bats to come back to life. Our pitching has fallen off a cliff.

I think I said in another post Winans, who we just sent back to AAA, has 15.2 ERA. That’s just where we are today.
Can’t win every year.

Holy smokes Trader Jerry strikes twice today (didn’t see this one earlier)

The Rays also traded Eflin to the O’s. I guess Tampa is throwing in the towel for this year. They’re going to turn some of these prospects into solid big leaguers a couple years down the line, just watch. It’s annoying how good they are at that.
