Everyone is battered and tired heading into the All Star Break. Well designed timing by MLB for the break, I think. These guys have been going full tilt since March. Just a couple of days of rest back home and then the hard part starts: finish the season strong and then playoffs. Don't ever blink now. Plenty of previously strong teams have fallen off after this point. Strong contenders that the press and MLB trumpet touted all year as The Ones Who Will Take It All suddenly become human and injuries change the calculus completely. MLB is relentless and you better keep up or your team suddenly is in the tank.

Went to my first game on Wednesday. YIKES! Philadelphia beats us 11-0. Verlander didn't look as bad as the score suggests. He gave up two home runs but he also struck out seven . He gave up two earned runs on the HR's but the Giants gave up two more runs on infield errors. The bullpen was a joke (literally). They bought in Tristen Beck and then newly acquired reliever Scott Alexander. The Phils scored seven runs off them in the eight inning. Who the heck is Scott Alexander? The Phils were teeing off him, I think the Giants just got him to fill in during garbage time. The Giants bought in outfielder Mike Yastrzemsk in the ninth. He started the inning with a 57-mph-heater.:bag: He did pick it up to 77 mph and he did better than our relievers by only allowing 2 runs. Of course, the Phils had all of their bench players in by that time.
My friends have threatened to never let me attend a game again.
Go Giants! Good win last night, hoping they can do it again today.
I was overseas for a month and haven't been on T.B. much since I returned.

The Cubs won 10 of their last 16 before the break, including 2 of 3 from the Yanks to finish up. They're up only one game on the Brewers, 6.5 on the Cards and 7.5 on the Reds. The Cubbies slumped after my last post talking about their record, so fingers crossed.

It's crazy that Seiya Suzuki is tied for second in the NL in RBIs, yet isn't going to the All-Star game. That rule about having a player from each team is goofy.

Not a great way to end the first half losing to the BUMS but, so far I'm pretty happy with my Giants slightly over the .500 mark. Could be a lot worse but I also get the feeling that this team could be so much better with the little random sparks of situational hitting and power every now and then. I'm already excited for the second half after this ridiculous popularity contest game (RIP All Star Game when it was actually about the best of the best players).

I hope he doesn't wear himself out. Even if he only hits ten more dingers for the year, he will be tops among catchers. I would be pretty thrilled if he somehow out homered McGuire and Bonds, only without being juiced. I don't see it happening, though. I would be even happier if the Mariners managed to get to the World Series for the first time and win it. Or even get there. Anything else would be an awful waste of a spectacular season on his part.

The goofy thing about the Mariners this year is that they are actually scoring runs, more or less. Their pitching has fallen off a bit. I sure hope the hitting improves as Julio gets into a groove, as he undoubtedly will, and that the pitching gets back to its usual stellar form. Injuries have hurt the pitching staff off and on all season. That catches up to everyone eventually, so it should even out.

I don't much care who wins the All-Star game tonight. How is that for being a lousy fan? I want to see the four Mariners in the game do well, but beyond that, I don't really care very much. If Raleigh is the MVP of the All-Star game, then I'll be really concerned about a second half flame-out. He better suck tonight.
