Ugh! Muncy scratched last night. Brock Stewart goes down with a right shoulder issue. And of course the Angels beat the Dodgers again.
I honestly had a bit of optimism at the very least to somewhat compete in the west heading into the 2nd half after the all star break but that was completely obliterated after these last few series against the Nats and Pads. I think I'm calling it a season and getting mindset for football season at this point. RIP another SF Giants disappointing season sprinkled with a few fun highlights.

The Tigers were 57-63 as of 8/14 last season. The Giants are 59-62 today. They could still have a postseason run in them. It would take a few lucky bounces to go their way, but it's not impossible even if it's unlikely. Keep living and dying with every pitch and hope for the best!

I like the optimism here. The reality is if this SF Giants team makes the playoffs it just won’t be for very long.
They don’t have the pieces and management dismantled a fair amount of the bullpen that really were the reason the Giants started the season stronger than expected.
I don’t disagree with the tear down (finally got rid of Doval for something other than beer nuts and got something in return for end-of-contract players as well) and we hopefully have a better farm because of it. But management pulled the plug on the season at the trade deadline.
I do like the idea of the Giants being a spoiler at some point like @MCF has pointed out. I’m still going to games and we’ll see.
The Dodgers better not play spoiler when they play the Mariners to end the season. Of course, if they do, that's on the Mariners for having failed to bury the cheatros.
With you there. I hate the Cheatros. I hated them when they were in the NL West. Goes back to the late seventies, early eighties. And then there was ‘89 and that freaking 22 inning game. You know how I feel about Texas Will. And the Cheatros are at the top of my list of my list on why I never go there.
And that’s the thing. Enjoy the games. The park. The fans. And come February, there’s a new hope. God I love baseball.
Excellent! For years there were the Bakersfield Dodgers. Then they were gone. A terrible park with hitters facing west did them in. There were efforts to get a decent park in the eighties/early nineties. But it’s Bakersfield.
Reminds me of Westgate Park where the PCL Padres played when I was a kid growing up in SD. Dad had Convair tickets behind home plate. But the Dodgers were our Major League team. So I’ve always bled blue.
Nice series win this week for Toronto against the Cubs. Chicago has a good team! Yesterday’s game had a nice pitching match up. I wasn’t sure if Scherzer had that in him anymore. Not overpowering or anything, but great to see him go 7 innings. I was also really happy to see Matt Boyd pitching well. He was drafted by Toronto and spent a couple of years in the Jays’ minor league system before being included in the big David Price trade with the Tigers in 2015. What a magical summer that was. Boyd didn’t spend much time in Toronto but I liked him and it’s great to see him still in the big leagues ten years later.
Padres at Dodgers tonight! We are looking forward to seeing a battle over the weekend.
Another series win for the Jays over the weekend. It feels a bit anticlimactic when the team loses the third game. But they won the first two, so it’s still a series win after all.
This week the boys are on the road in Pittsburgh in Miami. I’m looking forward to watching Skenes. These should both be winnable series. Here’s hoping it’s a strong road trip.

The Mariners are giving me agita. That's all. Agony in mid-August is good. If the Mariners are still inducing agony by the end of September, I'll be very happy. Baseball is a game of failure followed by masochists. I'm pretty sure of that. It's certainly true of Mariners fans.
