The Yanks took two of three from Toronto over the weekend. Not the outcome we were looking for! NYY only two games back now. Nobody said it was going to be easy, and I look forward to exciting and suspenseful September baseball... but this is going to get stress-y! 😬 At least the Dbacks helped me out with a couple wins over Boston.

I've got my eyes on the Rays too... they've been showing some signs of life again recently, and the Jays have seven (!) games left against them in the final two weeks of the season.

I recently retired. So much less stress.

Then the Dodgers dump 5 of 6 on the road with Yamamoto getting to the last out of a no hitter against the O’s on Saturday and giving up a homer. Then Roberts brings in Treinen. Ugh. And he stinks up the place. Couldn’t throw a strike. Dodgers end up losing. Pretty dismal showing. Kershaw was the stopper yesterday and they finally won one. So now the race is down to the wire with even the Giants and Snakes having a shot. 3-7 over the last 10 is not how a championship team needs to play in September. At least Mookie is looking good at the plate. There’s hope. But still…..

Well, the Mariners seem to have discovered offense all of a sudden. It would have been good to see that kind of output all along, but I'll take it. Raleigh could hit 60 home runs this season, which is astonishing for anybody, let alone a catcher. Rodriguez could be a 30-30 man without much of a stretch, and he's finally heating up in a big way. Now if the Mariners can tape the pitching staff back together, they could actually be OK. They are only 2-1/2 back now, and they play teams with an aggregate losing record. The only thing I'm concerned about is the final road trip to KC and Houston. They need to get their road thumbs out of their road butts for a change to keep me from having complete agita.

That's because the Mariners are not visiting. Fortunately the Mariners are at home, where they seem to know how to win. They only have six road games left, which is a good thing. Those six road games are against KC and Houston. Those are both teams they need to beat to win the AL West and be sure of being a wild card, since the Cheatros need to get flushed, and KC is right behind the Mariners for the wild card in case the Cheatros prevail.

The schedule is good for the Mariners though. Two more against the Cardinals, four against the Angels, all at home. Then KC and Houston. Then back home against the Rockies and finally the Dodgers. If the Dodgers continue to falter, then the Mariners have a pretty good chance of ending the season well over the next few weeks. Only two games behind Houston and a game and a half up on Texas for the wild card means that the rest of the season will be an agonizing roller coaster. I love it!

The outcome was a good one. I'll be rooting for the Jays again tonight. If they win and the Mariners pull off a win, then the Mariners are back to tied with the Astros for the West. I didn't expect them to make up ground quite this soon. I'm way too well trained as a Mariners fan. The wheels are going to fall off somehow, now matter how much talent the Mariners have on the diamond right now.

MLB backloaded the Dodger/Giants series this season <rubbing hands together>. Heh heh...

Those two teams would meet a LOT more often during the season until MLB changed to "everybody plays everybody else once" scheduling.

The schedule makes no sense. The Mariners have to final series this season at home. The Rockies and the Dodgers. What's that about? The season should end with teams in the same division playing each other right down to the wire. OK, the Mariners go to Houston right before those last six games, but still, the season should end with a string of games against rivals, not extraneous teams from other divisions. Not that I am complaining to have three against the Rockies to go along with the upcoming four against the Angels, who seem to be falling apart pretty quickly.

I'm rooting for the Jays to finish the sweep today, and also hoping the Astros keep faltering. The Mariners absolutely have to get their road flailing under control or the Astros' fade just won't matter.

I was too exhausted to stay up until the end of the Giants/Dodgers game last night and called it around the 7th inning but, apparently I missed a grand slam in the 10th to win it for the Giants. The best rivalry in baseball is obviously debatable but every year that these two teams face each other, it always intense, exciting and fun.
