Taking a closer look at the team-level stats for the postseason, I'm still so impressed by what the Jays have done. On the hitting side, the Jays rank 1st in runs, hits, home runs (tied with Seattle), AVG, OBP, SLG. And of the teams that made it as far as the ALCS/NLCS, they had the fewest strike outs. On the pitching side, somehow the Jays' pitchers have the most strikeouts in the postseason, although the Dodgers' are very close behind. But the Dodgers' pitchers are way ahead in terms of ERA, WHIP, opponent batting average, hits allowed, etc. Can these Blue Jay hitters break through against the Dodgers' elite pitching? I am so excited to see what happens.

Normally I’d congratulate the Jays and say “here’s hoping for a fun series.”

But last night Blue Jays fans were chanting “**** the Dodgers.” Fine. But stupid. Now wait until until the Jays hit the ravine. I expect it will get pretty brutal. It didn’t have to be that way. I hope the Jays go down in flames. And that Dodger fans stuff that cheater Springer in a garbage can and weld the lid shut on it.

I agree that any statement that goes “**** [whatever]” is dumb and inarticulate. But please cut these admittedly dumb Jays fans some slack for getting a little overzealous while celebrating a big win. The team hasn’t been back to the World Series since 1993 and there’s been very little postseason success in the intervening years. We are all very excited, and shouting dumb stuff like that in the heat of the moment is just a way of showing excitement and a belief that the hometown team has a chance to upset the Dodgers. LA will no doubt be favored to win the WS by the gambling industry and most baseball pundits. Jays fans just want to remind everybody that we have a decent squad too and that it isn’t decided just yet. Who knows, maybe when it’s over, Ohtani will be wishing he had signed in Toronto! 😉😂

Here’s to hoping for a fun series where both teams give it their all!

But last night Blue Jays fans were chanting “F**k the Dodgers.” Fine. But stupid. Now wait until until the Jays hit the ravine. I expect it will get pretty brutal. It didn’t have to be that way. Isn't it about time to give that 'cheater' carp a rest? That was years ago-and every team steals signs if they can.
Remember: in NASCAR they say if you ain't cheatin', you ain't tryin'.

Full disclosure: I'm neither an Astros nor a NASCAR fan.

I want to dial things back and apologize to @MCF. As a fan of the division rival Giants MCF has always been cool to me and we have enjoyed fun ribbing back and forth at times about the Dodgers/Giants rivalry.

I am sorry for inflaming, stoking the fires, and all around surliness and wish to let @MCF know thatI've really appreciated the posts throughout the regular season and to come. Everything has been in good fun and spirits and I wish to continue that same spirit.

Here's to a competitive World Series,TalkBass

My mother, who is 76 and has never watched a baseball game in her life, was watching game seven. Since we lived near Seattle so long, she identifies with any team from Seattle, except she loves USC since she went to nursing school there. When the Mariners were still winning she came into my office and asked me why the Mariners players keep swinging at pitches they can't hit. After I explained to her the 'live by the long ball, die by the long ball' approach some teams take to the game, she asked me why they keep trying to hit more home runs since they were already winning. There you have it, haha. My mother even knew.
Yes, I am 54 and I live with my parents. They moved in with the wife and I last April so we could help them along as they get a little older and less mobile.

As a Phils phan, though I'm close to neutral about the Series, I'll be mildly rooting for the Dodgers. First, I still have memories of Joe Carter's series winning homer from 1993, so, even though I love Toronto as a city and Canada generally, it's a challenge to get behind the Jays. Second, the more the Dodgers dominate, the less humiliating our NLDS loss might look--at least in our imaginations. As a Phillies podcaster said, it could "recontextualize" the Phils-Dodgers series. Hey, we'll take what we can get after that brutal game four!

But if the Mariners had won the ALCS, I would be rooting for them. I lived in Seattle for a summer and have strong ties to the PNW region through family and friends, so I wanted to see the Mariners end the long suffering of the fan base.
