Never owned one but can say they are are one of the more consistently good sounding basses off the rack. When I was only the road I always made it a point to frequent music stores and try out multiples of the same instruments. After a while you compile opinions and confidence on what your short list is for a potential future purchase.
Modulus 5 of 6 - really good
Padulla - hit or miss
Fender really hit or miss
Every G&L I've played was good sounding but each seemed like they needed another hour of detailing before they left the factory (sharp frets, loose knobs)

Yes I would agree..ive been with Modulus since 97 and I have a lot of basses and my main go to is my Q5 or Genesis.

I have a Q5 semi-hollow, it's absolutely incredible. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, has the attack of a Modulus.

I'm genuinely curious, but have you tried Status basses? Wondering how they fare in comparison in your opinion. I tried a Modulus once, briefly so long ago I'd not like to comment beyond it was excellent.

Bought a used Q5 last year. Paid 30% retail price for it and it's the best bass I've ever played. Love it to bits.
Sounds super clear and responsive with the EMG pups and preamp and it's as stable as a rock.

I'd have really considered getting one but at the time, I came off a Steinberger XL2. Mixed feelings about graphite (consistent and rock solid but missing the more organic tone and personality of my old Fenders, addt'l cost of re-fretting or even finding someone who knows what they're doing with graphite).
Yes my man you definitely should have kept your genesis.. phenomenal sounding bass and my Q5 I'm cool with the spacing because I do a lot of double thumbing and tapping I need the space in between the strings to do that flawlessly..
