Modulus Mob

I hope I never need any work done on my Modulus J-neck. You guys are kind of bursting my bubble with the Modulus horror stories. It took me about a year to be able to order the neck. I wont have it for a while but hope that the thing is rock solid and that I have no issues with it.

I've never had any issues with mine, both with truss rods, and I have only had to adjust one of mine once and that is because I sent it back to Modulus to have some cosmetic repair work done and needed to set things back up again properly.

Relax: Even if you do have some issues, you're the original owner...so Modulus will take care of you.

Folks,

Has anyone strung a Quantum Q5 E-C?

Curious as a Modulus neck would like be be one of the best available to test out different tensions, gauges and strings.

Thanks for all of your help.:p:D

In any case, I took my B-G Fodera SS strings off my Quantum 5 and restrung it with the only light E-C strings I could find.... D'Addario Nickels.

The biggest thing I noticed is that the neck did not budge..... This is a huge advantage for any bassist that tries different gauges or completely different sets. My action is super low and the same as the old .050-0.135 set I had on them previously. Zero adjustments.

The nut and bridge are both fine and he E and A strings aren't moving around at all.

The bass sounds great as expected.

I figured that I would try E-C on this bass as I have a Fodera 5er on the way and my Spector and MTD 5ers really suit the band I am currently playing with. Also, I love my Q4.... And I get bored easily!:bassist:

I have been looking to upgrade to a 5 string for a while. I have been playing only older, passive 4 strings. I've had the same 68 Precision since the 70's and added a pair of early 80's Yamaha BB3000's a couple of years ago. So, my goals with a new bass was to get a 5'er with a great neck, 35" scale, active electronics, and something kind of pretty.
Here's what I came up with. It is simply the best bass I have ever played and I could not be happier with my decision to go Modulus!

Nice! I have owned all kinds of basses and always stick with my Q5. When I bought mine I wasn't even a 5 string player but it played so nice that I made myself learn.....best musical decision I have ever made. I will never get rid of my Modulus Q5....unless food depends on it.

Last Friday I took possession (or was I possessed?) of a 1991 Q6 TBX. It has a couple of issues, but the price was right and I love the feel of the early 90s necks, much flatter the latter necks. The bridge doesn't go low enough, so I've got an email in to Modulus about possible replacements (I'm also not a fan of the really wide saddles, which are essentially like a wide flat rail for the higher strings rather than a clearly defined break point). I also want to put a 4 knob preamp in there (EMG BQC for now), but the way the knobs are laid out is making me wonder about the best placement for the 4th. Any suggestions? These are not my pix, but I'll try to get some better ones together soon. It sounds great and plays pretty nicely and will be even better once I get the action down.

Oh yeah, number please! I've had a Q6 for about 12 years now, so it's overdue. I'll post pix of that one, too. It's got a great spalted maple top. It might be up for sale.

Thanks, S_Monkey. I had a good time sifting through posts on TB and looking at all of the different options. Lakland, Nordy, and Lull were the primary candidates I considered, along with MM. I gotta say that I made the right decision for me. Such a remarkable piece of technology and what a musical inspiration!

Dear Modulus Mob,

Did any of you slammed a Pope Flexcore, instead of Bartolini NS2TMB's (2004 Q6 I have :-))

Just wondering...

I actually put a Flex Core into an FU4 that has a split Lane Poor MM - yes I can blend between each coil and the Flex Core has turned this single pup bass into a monster.

Here's some recent photos of my Modulus basses.

I recently put a John East preamp in my VJ4 and it makes a world of difference in my choices of tones. The only problem I did encounter was that the control cavity was really tight with the battery in there. So to solve that problem, I just routed a battery compartment in the back of the bass and now the world is right again.
