Modulus Mob

I had the same issue, Taylor, with the bridge pickup, though I never "minded" it- but it became more controllable and malleable with the East preamp (which is fairly similar to the Pope/Fodera, just with more low end and less transparency).

A video would be great, if you can record audio direct instead of through a camera microphone!

My Q5 had a Bart/Bart setup, and my Q6 came with EMGs because I knew I was going to replace them with Lane Poors. I hate hate hate hate hate the EMGs in a Modulus, but I like a much warmer, less rigidly/harsh tone, and EMGs just accentuate the wrong characteristics in the neck for me.

Hey guys I just had the Fodera Standard Preamp installed in my Modulus Quantum 6 and let me say this... It is the most amazing sounding preamp on this earth!!!! It really has brought my bass to life. This bass was given to me by Oteil Burbridge so it already had something special about it but now it is just awesome! The two mid knobs low and high make the biggest difference in the world with the bridge pickup. And man when u roll the neck pickup and the treble up you get the most killing slap sound Ive ever heard. Also having the active/passive switch is a must!!! I can get such a great vintage sound now!!!! Ive had the privelege of playing alot of great Modulus' however to my ears none compare to this tonally... I will try to put up a video soon..

Jeff Sipe? Damn. Heard he is going to be at the Xmas Jam. Thought about going.

Hey all! I'm back on the site after a bit of a hiatus. I've already posted in the Spector club, but I've got plenty of love left for the Modulus crew! Here's me Q5W-

Yup, that is a 6 string neck in that Q5W! It's a slapper's delight, but she's a bit of a handful-pun intended-for everything else. She sounds amazing, so I overlook her "issue", LOL!

And here's a pic of the whole "family"-

If I could find one and afford it, I'd try to track down one of the new TBXs...

Hey folks at the Modulus Mob, due to an old injury(broken left pinky), I have to sell the new Q6 I posted on here a month or two ago. Please take a look at thread and pass the word along to any fellow mobsters.
Thanks guys.

I found a solution, I am getting a 34" Scale Q5. I still need to sell my Q6. Could any of you explain the advantages of 26 frets, is it purely an extended range benefit?

Essentially, yes. Coming from someone who just had a custom 34" scale / 26 fret Q5 built, I chose those options because I wanted A. a shorter scale length to better accommodate my smaller hands, and B. a few extra notes when I go up the neck. It's cool to have that high A up there, and to my ears, the two extra frets don't adversely affect the tone of the instrument in any way. Some slap players contend that a neck with anything more than 20 frets starts to impact the quality of their sound, but I've yet to hear definitive proof.

That said, some people also worry about losing the Quantum's monster B string when going down to a 34" scale neck. I can assure you that it's still there in full effect - my low B does not feel loose of "floppy" and absolutely shakes the house...

Hi guys. I am fascinated by the Modulus mystique and am ready to jump in. Anyone selling or knowing of availability of a good Quantum 5 17mm or 19mm or, possibly, another 5 string model, PM me with details. Cost is a concern, but I am ready to buy now. Thanks in advance.

Greetings, mob! My christmas came early, as this passive VJ came into my possession via trade. Made in '99, barts, gotoh, V/V/T, no wood on the neck ;)

Just one question that the owner's manual does not provide an answer for.. what size allen/hex -key is the right one for the truss rod?

Just ordered a Modulus J neck, satin finish, side dots only to replace the neck on my squier modified jazz sunburst bass. Also getting the Dealno pickups w/ the giant pole pieces te replace the Duncan designed pu's.

Will post a pic when it's all together.

Congrats! I love the satin finish on my VJ, actually wish my FU4 had it as well.

As a fan of the Delano large pole pickups, just a heads up that you will want to make sure your dampening technique is spot on since they pick up everything ;)

String change is done, intonation is set and I lowered strings somewhat to get closer to my current liking. It's still not low enough, definitely need a truss rod tweak to straighten the neck a bit - then it should be perfect. Already plays very well, though. :)

I noticed that I have the same problem with the Gotoh bridge than I had on a previous bass that had this same bridge.. the saddles are bottoming out and there's no room for more adjustment. IMO, the base plate is just too thick, or it should be countersunk a bit. Last time I had this problem I had a Fender MIM bridge lying around, but not this time.

Anyone who's had both, does the hipshot have thinner baseplate (or smaller saddles to give more room for adjustment) ?

I also removed the pickguard, I think it looks better without it. The wood has some nice grain going on (which unfortunately can't be seen from this crappy iPhone pic, sorry about that).

EDIT: I e-mailed Modulus directly regarding the truss rod allen key size, what's a better way to find out than go directly to the source, right? ;)

Thanks for the heads up on the dampening of the Delano's. the model w/ the large pole pieces were highly recommended because I love the sound of a MM bass.

I'm also not sure that replacing the standard bridge on my bass with a hip shot type b will make any sonic difference?
