Modulus Mob

That SweetSpot needed a fretjob and board level, but it was super nice when it was done. It was a wide spacing so I could not play it.
Well, I took the cover off the middle of the bass... It was a Sweetspot. Not a Turbo.. Both front and rear routes are crooked as all get out.
Here is under the cover plate -

If I where you I would send it back to Guitar Center and get your money back, and look at www.planetbass.com, they have to brand new Q5's, obviously no warranty but still they are brand new basses.
Me personally I have gave up with Guitar Center, they have idiots that work for them, plain simply Guitar Center BLOWS!!!!

What is the mystery? Some dude took the sweetspot pickup out, got a beaver drunk and had him route two pickup cavity with his teeth. The gentleman then put two pickups back in. Mystery solved.

You could make it look great with a refinish, but the question is whether that is at all worth it to you. The bass needs some work.

Why not add a third pickup, you have the best of both worlds;)

The bass has got some mojo and a feel about her. Like I said earlier, I have the beginning of the story and the ending of it (when I got it), I am just missing the middle chapters and it is like a mystery that I have to solve.

This whole story kind of reminds me of the movie The Money Pit - not all the crazy stuff and the connotation about it actually being a money pit, but the part about if the foundation is good, everything else can be fixed.

If you're getting that 'feeling' about the instrument, I say keep it and fix her up. Get her a new 'do' (refin), clean her up and take her out on the town. :)

But... I still say GC owes you a few ducats though ;)

The FrankenMod has me wondering; now that Modulus is gone, I wonder if there is a website or some other resource where owners can find out info on their basses. Serial list database?
I know you can find out the year the bass was made by some of the serial numbers, but it would be helpful, like here to Iriegnome, to get more info.

If it's anything like their customer service, doubtful.

Pete, I've searched pretty extensively and haven't found anything like this for Modulus. Unfortunately, now that they're done, I'd say there isn't a very good chance of any records they may have had being made available for such a purpose.

It is too bad we don't know personally Anderson Page or anyone else that was there. Those records are somewhere. We should think about starting our own database... New thread maybe?? Modulus Database kind of thing. Bass model, serial number, mods if known?? Color... That kind of thing.

You know, if anyone was in contact with Geoff, he might be able to get us some information... Like I have never heard of a Turbo SweetSpot or a Prime.. I don't know what makes a M92 or what it really is. Piecing together a history of basses for the last 40 years would be fun to do...

I think that most of us have some idea of what is out there and what we have, but it would most certainly take a whole community of people to put together this kind of list. Then we would need to see if we want to put it public (no names of course) or keep it just in this area here? I think that once we would start putting this together, it would be an awesome list..

As far as I know, the M-92 was Modulus' first "budget bass". It was released in 1992 and was essentially a 18v single pickup Quantum, top routed with a pickguard, no fancy tops. I almost bought one. It was soon replaced (the very next year?) by the rear routed Sweetspot.
