Modulus Mob

Can i quickly hear what strings you use on your Mods? I have been using GHS Flea Signature strings on my FU4, but they tend to die in very short time. (No wonder that Flea change strings every time he goes on a gig) I like the 'Flea Sound' but I wish that my strings would stay alive longer.
I do like the sound from DR strings but I'm not sure what DR strings will sound good with the graphite neck. I'd imagine that for example, the Hi-Beams will be too bright.
What are your opinions?

Does anyone have experience bolting a Modulus neck onto a non-Modulus body? I've got a 2001 Flea 5 MM, would love to try that neck on a JJ configured body (and a lighter body). I'm wondering about fit / model and what neck pocket modification may be needed. I searched but didn't find much. Thanks.

The neck pocket should be big enough. The only problem is that the fender Jazz bass only has 20 frets. The Modulus has 22, which means a longer neck. So my answer is: No I don't THINK that it will work out. But you can always try ;-)

IIRC didn't Modulus use to sell replacement Jazz necks? The only thing I could see being an 'issue' would possibly be drilling out the top of the screw holes on the back so that the bolt heads could catch the neck threads enough and sit flush in the body.

As far as strings go, used to be EB Cobalts, way too bright and grew tired of the increased tension. I have switched to balanced sets from Kalium Strings (Circle K) - just bright enough, but bring the warmth as well.

@Hidesert - very nice Q4!

I've put VJ necks on a Fender P body and a Signature J body with no modifications. In fact, I bought a new J body and don't expect any complications.

Thanks B.Bart. Tell me about Delano pickups. I think that I'd like to try upgrading with them and an appropriate preamp.

String wise, I am still experimenting.
The most recent Q4 came with new Rotosounds. Not my cup of tea. It's now got DR Sunbeams which are fantastic. I've used a variety of. Others, primarilynickel roundwounds.

Can anybody identify that pre in the pic I posted a page or two back?

Hey Sleepy M. I use a Genz Benz Streamliner thru a pair of AE series Bergantino cabs for most needs. I also use an Ashdown ABM 500 thru either an
Epifani T310 (easy to move) or a Berg HT322 (heavy and large).
I also have a 70's era blackline SVT that remains unmatched, cab-wise.
Love the Berg cabs! The Epifani is extremely warm sounding and matches up well with the EMG equipped Q's,which I think is what you prefer.
