Thanks B.Bart. Tell me about Delano pickups. I think that I'd like to try upgrading with them and an appropriate preamp.
I too am looking for a string change on my FU4
Love GHS Boomers but get sick of how tense/hard to play they get when they die out.
Im between Sunbeams or Circle K's.......
Depends on the 'sound' you want, but Delano pickups IMHO are pretty transparent, you get the bass, the bass and nothing but the bass. That said, some are higher output and have a wider range than others - blade style HE, HE/S or HE/M2. The large pole type (FE/M2) have great transients and pick up everything - you're muting technique better be spot on, these are also lower output than the HE series mentioned above. I have not tried the more 'vintage' line (AL) for P and J basses as that's not my thing.
As far as pre's go, I've used John East Retro's, the Lakland LH3 and Mike Pope Flexcore all with good results when paired with Delano pickups.
The nice thing about the Delano pickups is they 'get out of the way' so that whatever pre you're using can do it's thing and sculpt your sound to how you want.
Thanks. Transparent is what I'm after. It's what I love about the Lane Poors.
I'd like to swap out the EMG(s) from a Q5 for one or a pair of Delano's.
For me, once I bond with a guitar's neck, I am glad to spend a bit trying out different sounding electronics. I learned that from Les Paul in 1977!
While my photo links are working.... My new baby
Which pre amp is this? The controls are Pickup Blend, Volume, Treble, and Bass.
It takes two 9V batteries.
It's a '99 bass.
