Modulus Mob

It's sad when we have to realize our limitations. I got rid of my 6'er for that same reason, although one day I will try again.

If it's any consolation, I started on 4, spent a few years in the 90s with a 5 that didn't agree with me, and then went back to 4. Last winter I played a Modulus q5w with 19mm spacing and it instantly clicked. Not having a cool $4000 I didn't pick up that bass, but I got a cheap MTD Kingston to work on my playing and am loving it.

Me Likey alot

So reading about the neoprene strap has me thinkin'.... I have used a Levy's one for years, and it is absolutely my most comfy strap. It doesn't quite get short enough, but that's another story.

When I got my Mod I changed over to my hard leather Levy's strap which is not as comfy, but feels more stable. Is there anyway that using a super soft strap can take away from the sound of a bass is there?

The strings have to vibrate relative to the bass, and if the strap was made of soft spaghetti noodles, there's got to be string energy escaping through the strap, as the bass vibrates as well. With a hard strap, I can feel what note I'm playing in my chest and stomach. Not so with the Neoprene. Any chance this translates into different perceived tone?

Early morning thoughts ;)

I have 3 4" wide leather straps I use on a regular basis. Cream, Brown and Black. The Cream strap I bought in 1982 from Music Emporium in California (I think they are now Musician's Friend). The Brown one I bought in 1995 for $20 from a Horse saddle maker in Florida. The Black one I bought in 2002 from a Horse saddle maker in Rose, WI for $30.. My Brown strap is just now 20 years in getting broken in and super comfy. Also super cool colors from years of sweat, sun and playing.
