Modulus Mob

BTW - I bid on that case on E-bay. However, Fred, if you want it, I will not bid on it anymore.

Thanks man, but I'm also in need of a Quantum case, so I'm not going for it.

My 2000 Q5, with the EMG BTS circuit, is an 18v system. I'm jealous- you may convince me to get a battery box installed, even though there is the cutout for the batteries in the cavity (I just have to unscrew it to get to them).

You could just mount a battery box in/on your control cavity cover, kinda like this......

Yea, lately I have been having issues with older batteries and forgetting to unplug my basses. Had one die in the middle of a show. What a royal pain. I took the bass that Sunday to my luthier. Had to happen. Hey, if anything my bass will be 3 ounces lighter!!

You posted this while I was posting. How does this one work?? Do you have any pic's of this with the cover off? My cover on my 2 main Mod's are both metal. Aluminum I think, so I am not sure this would work out. But I really want to see under that plate.. PLEASE!!!

Sorry, I just found that picture on the interweb, not actually mine.

You'd just need to cut a hole in the cover for the battery box so that it extends down into the space that the battery currently occupies. If your cavity has a little wood "wall" for the battery to sit in, you would probably have to remove that to make room for the box.

I think a metal cover would actually be best for this kind of set up, since it'll be more rigid. A little harder to cut than plastic, but a Dremel would still get through it easily.

If it's got room for a battery now, I'd be surprised if there wasn't enough room for a box mounted this way. The box is only a tiny bit wider and longer than a battery with connector attached.

There are boxes available to hold the battery either way, depending on the space available. The one pictured earlier has the battery laying flat, but you can get a box that has the battery turned on it's side so it'd sit deeper in the cavity, but take up less space side-to-side, like this one.....

Oh, I didn't know you could get one that holds the battery on it's side (flat like). My battery was currently laying flat on top of the pots. Crap.. Thanks Bruce. Now, I have to buy one and try it out on one of my other basses. Do you know if they make a side by side double?? I would probably do a couple of my basses with 18v systems as well.

So adding a battery box onto the cover plate looks pretty straight forward (Unless your cover plate is metal like several of mine). Also, they come in flat styles on the bay for about $5 or so free shipping and 2 versions - one that snaps onto the cover and one like previously pictured with the 4 small holes in the corners. I think I am going to pick one up and try it on my Warmoth (Standard rear cover plate). I know I have a lot of room in that cavity as well. Also, I am going to present this to my luthier. I am sure he never even thought of mounting it on the cover plate. It would probably save me about $60 in labor due to not having to route the body!!!

do any mobbers here have an aguilar preamp in their modulii? just picked up a q-5 that has an obp-1. from my understanding, the obp-1 was bass/treble boost. this bass does have that BUT there's also a midrange knob. can a mid knob just be added? it also has a coil-tap switch. pickups are bart quad-coils. just curious...

The Aguilar OBP-1 is a 2 band boost only pre... weird... Are you sure it's an OBP-1? I had one in an old Spector Euro, and it was VVBT, but it was wired like that when I got it so I don't know if you could mod (no pun intended) it...

Yes and no........... Aquilar doesn't make any kind of add-on mid control, but EMG does. Is your mid control a stacked knob (one for boost/cut, one for frequency center)?
no. that's what has me a bit perplexed. from the pic above, it's volume/volume/stacked bass-treble and mid (no center detent either).

no variable knob or toggle to change freq.

when staring down at the pot, there's nothing soldered to the left "peg" (sorry the name escapes me). the middle peg has the the blue wire from the obp-1 and a white wire from the bridge vol. knob. the right peg has a capacitor (473k/.22 micro-farad) soldered from the right peg to the top of the pot. there's a ground wire also soldered to the top of the pot.

it's definitely an older obp-1 (the flat body).

mind you, i'm not complaining. love the sound of the barts married to the aguilar. was a definite surprise when i plugged her in.

might be my new go-to set up!
