yeah, should have put quotes around 'garth brooks' name in my post. was using his name as a reference. also tried to drive home the point that even if the bass was personally owned and played by garth brooks himself, the price was something i wouldn't entertain. i know that he's a popular figure in the annals of country music. maybe something mr. brooks personally owned (hat worn during an important performance, personally written lyric sheets, etc.) that is identified with him whole-heartedly would demand $10k and more. but the bass of the bass player he worked with, maybe not so much (again, in my opinion).

Yeah, I agree with you. Is anyone going to know who that guy is (I had to google him)? His resume' is pretty impressive though. But hey, never hurts to ask.

One thing that is strange is if this bass is suppose to be a brand new Q5 for 2015 it is not a brand new bass but it was the Q5 that Planet Bass use to have a long time ago, it was on Planet Bass website way before Modulus first shut down business then eventually sold.

The bass being demoed on Modulus Guitars Facebook page is definitely not a brand new Modulus for 2015, it's still a nice looking Q5 though.

Yea you are totally correct. That bass was on their site for over a year because the price was ridiculous. And yes it is a terrible demo.

Rant in 3,2,1: You know what iregnome and loveandbass, Dammit you're right. I have 3 of their friggin' basses and feel like a fool. They build incredible bass guitars, have poopy CS, go under, fail to inform the thousands of Modulus owners (most loyal to the brand as far as I can tell) and then put out this weak sauce video with a bass years old and still leave us in the dark, or at least, curious as to the current status of the company. All the while it is clear there is interest from current / past and potential future Modulus owners. Sucks. I have been an owner since 2004 and it is lame how I and you guys have been (and still are) treated - I own three of their basses and was considering a 4th last week. Just admit that you had issues, you now have new owners / management and start over. You owe it to us on this thread to beef up your social medial aspect and move on to 2015. We won't "bite", if anything we will drool over your product and want more....Rant over.

Thanks for reading..., now, where is my Quantum 5 and my ARU CD?

To be fair, modulus in its current iteration is basically 2 dudes. But seriously I would like some engaging info from them in regards to what theyre up to.

I think Joe is a swell guy and most likely super busy building so really Tony should be handling all the media side of things.

You know, when they posted that they were going to restart, I called Tony at Planet Bass. Since I bought some of the pieces and parts from the auctions, I volunteered to give them back. No charge. To offer support for the bass I fell in love with 16 years ago. I currently have 8 Modulus' and my guitarist has 6 of them. We are certainly fans. Willing to offer up help in any way to make sure they succeed!! Nothing though. That's cool. But it is just sad that the video they put out to promote themselves is just depressing and whole heartedly terrible

I don't know- I just watched the video (albeit on my ipad) and I don't think it's that awful. Overall, I question the worth of any of these demo videos- there are SO many variables in tone (hands, strings, amps, etc.) that I don't know how accurate any of them can ever be.

I do see why they used that bass though, even if it is from the "original" Modulus- that top is stunning!



I do agree that they are moving slow, but I am not a business person and don't know what they have involved. Just glad a new Modulus is an option, albeit an expensive one.

I played my first Genesis recently. I wasn't sure what to expect with the carbon/wood combo. Damned if it didn't have the trademark Modulus sound and responsiveness. I loved it!

Kind of bums me out that didn't bid on one of those Genesis VJ necks that were on the Bay the other week.

I regret getting rid of my Genesis 5 all the time. The body was a little big, but the neck was great! One of these days, I'll get another... They are greatly undervalued.

back in the 80's when i was at the bass institute in la, a couple of blocks away was michael tobias' shop on cahuenga. to promote his brand, he hooked up teachers and students with deep (wholesale) discounts on basses. so, many of our teachers and classmates were basically walking advertisements for michael. of course, we all go to play the early tobias basses when checking out the gear from our colleagues. many became fans, converts and owners.

not sure what the business plans are for the new 'modulus graphite'. but if they can get their new merch in the hands of many of the working bassists here and abroad, hopefully that will establish the modulus brand name even more.

Not to beat a dead horse, but looking at the Vimeo profile, looks like this is a Minneapolis based marketing company that did this, so looks like they are getting going on their internet/social media presence.

Also, I just noticed the FU and VJ basses behind him...

Happy 4th everyone! (Obviously it has more meaning to us American based mobsters, but everyone should have a good day regardless)
