Yeah, i noticed that too... and i don't think that top is chechen... maybe bubinga or koa?

I didn't think Chechen came in that big of pieces. Which is why it was used as a fret board wood. Looks more like Koa to me as well

Well, this weekend a guy offered me to exchange my Markbass amp+cabinet for his Modulus.

So I got this nice Modulus Quantum 5, 1999, Blackstone
Needs a new bridge but that's about it (there is a strange reflex on the picture but the body is fine)

That one's pretty unique - gloss finish neck and a mysterious double iron cross inlay at the 12th fret...

I saw that one. Looks nice. Mine really surprised me with how well it feels. Odd body shape, but a really nice neck. Very much like my Genesis 4.

That is one FINE Quantum. I love the wide spacing. I thought it was actually 20mm but you can adjust a little tighter to 19mm. It shouldn't last long with that bubinga top... beautiful.

that's a six string neck with five-string spacing. i forgot who here has one but the spacing is definitely in the 20.5mm-21mm range.

for when you want to go wider than a p-bass spacing.

that is a seriously nice top.

does anyone else see the line on the back of the neck around where the 14th or 15th fret would be? maybe a scratch from a stand or a trick of the light on the kld neck?

You sure about that? I don't see the plug on the D string hole like someone had here with the conversion (6 to 5). It looked factory stock to me. Ill check the pic again....

modulus offered it as a factory option. they basically took a six string neck and drilled five holes in the headstock. then put an uber-wide five-string bridge on to accommodate the wide string spacing.

what i based it on was the bridge. if you notice, the metal 'bars' between the bridge saddle channels on the hipshot 'a-style' bridge are thicker than the normal-sized 17mm modulus bridge.

i'll shoot a message over to the seller just to double-check...
