Modulus Mob

I read reviews on the Vertex. It is basically a Funk 4 with a different body. Reviews of that talk about the neck being thicker than a Q neck. I have no personal experience with them so i will find out soon. Looks like they were only made for a couple years, but like most Moddy's that is up for debate?

New as in post bankrupt take over?

BTW, has anyone heard any reviews/thoughts about the new basses?

Seems like modulus has always made great basses, so i'm curious to hear thoughts of anyone who's bought one of the new ones. The prices are pretty up there. They went from a nice bass the average joe could save up and get, to something the only the 1% can afford. I really want one but even if i save up $5000, theres so much i could use that for...like student loans:crying:

I wonder how the company is doing. in the last month, i saw quite a few FUs pop up on planet bass. Maybe theyre cranking the out a little faster? Theres also some discounted ones on the modulus website, but the cheapest one is still $4500

You know, I just looked at a Spalt Bass. They are $$6,000.. You look at a MIA Fender $2,000. EBMM $2,000.. Alembic WAY TOO MUCH.. Elric's - $4,000 and so on.. Modulus for what they are really are not much more expensive than most all the other custom hand made basses out there. Fender and MM are cutting board assembly basses so they are much less than more crafted basses.

It's not going to sound like a FU4. It doesn't have the same kind of pickup and I think the placement is a bit different. It's exactly the same as the SS quantum placement, with a different body shape.

Hi. I have a Genesis MT5 serial number 020462. I'm thinking about selling it as I will be relocating soon (from Pittsburgh to San F) and could use the cash. I want to get the specs right in the listing. According to what I read the serial number would seem to indicate it is a 2002, but other sources suggest they weren't being made that year. I'm confused. These are the specs I was told when I bought it: burl maple top, ash body, birdseye maple neck, bartolini soapbar pickups, 19v aquilar 3-way active eq, 35” scale, 22-frets. The top, fingerboard, electronics and pickups are all upgrades from a stock Genesis. It's incredibly stable and rock hard (dent resistant), and after many years seems to be in pretty much perfect condition. Thoughts?

I'm afraid I'm not much help, but that is one sweet Genesis!

Beautiful piece. Gas. "and rock hard (dent resistant),". Would love to know
what this "finish" might consist of. Not to sound anti- mojo, but I'd have my Q5 refinished. Anyone redirect to any threads pertaining to this off topic discussion?

Firstly, it is probably an 18v preamp. Secondly, the neck is Alder wrap with the Maple fretboard. Third, Bartolini pickups were pretty standard on the Genesis (but definitely a charged upgrade), as was the Aggie pre was an upgrade as was the body top and the fretboard. Modulus made the Genesis starting in 1996. They ended the production of them sometime about 2005(IIRC).

Thanks. I'm not good at these kinds of details. I appreciate your expertise.

It's a strange thing. I've owned a number of basses across the 40 years I've been playing and I've used this one on long contracts overseas and for some reason it seems to show no signs of wear. Maybe a little lite scuffing of the plastic battery compartment on the back. Perhaps I've just been lucky, or have finally figured out how to be more consistently careful. Don't know if it's really a "feature", but it's an outlier in my experience.

question for those in the know (or if you have a late 90's catalog).

when modulus switched to using truss/adjustment rods (1997 iirc), what wood fingerboards were offered as options? i remember chechen was used. did they offer other options (cocobolo? rosewood? pau ferro?)
I only remember chechen, which is a type of rosewood. The quantum manual i have as a pdf says:

Granadillo and chechen are ecologically sustainable, independently-certified Mexican hardwoods with similar characteristics to rosewood and pau ferro. They add a touch of warmth to the midrange of the instrument and provide a more traditional look and feel than a composite fingerboard.

It also says:
Genesis guitars and basses feature granadillo, chechen or maple fingerboards.

The manual is from the post truss era, not sure of the year, but it has instructions on the "relief adjustment system" and has the newer logo.

thanks. i believe it's granadillo coz all the google pix show chechen having a lighter grain while the granadillo has a darker grain with darker striations throughout.

trying to be as sure as possible. want my listing to be a correct as possible:

According to my brochure the neck could be cedar, alder, or maple. Looks like yours is either maple or alder. Here's one from 07 with a maple neck Modulus Genesis 5 , High End Bass Guitars, Amps & Bass Strings
