plan on doing this myself. figure all i need is various levels of sandpaper grit and time. just thought i'd check with the mob if anyone is stringing their fretless moddy's with rounds and dealing with the string grooves on a normal basis.Planing/refinishing the fingerboard, like with any non-phenolic fingerboard.
Any good guitar tech/luthier can do this, so won't require that you take it to someone who specializes in carbon fiber necks or anything.
I remember reading somewhere that it's a compound radius, but I have no idea if that's accuarate. The pdf of the manual doesn't have anything in it. Maybe geoff gould would know (did they necks change after he left, other than the truss rod?), otherwise I'm sure Joe Perman could help you out...plan on doing this myself. figure all i need is various levels of sandpaper grit and time. just thought i'd check with the mob if anyone is stringing their fretless moddy's with rounds and dealing with the string grooves on a normal basis.
does anyone know the radius of the fingerboard of the modulus q5? it's an '01 (truss rod). planning to head over to stewmac for a sanding block.
thanks!
The classic insert dirty joke about my big hands here!! Um, does this look too small for my body or some other typical green room band 2am joke"I want a Modulus, but can't handle the 35" scale."

I would absolutely NEVER do this.. Been working on my own basses for 37 years now. I have a professional luthier take care of anything at all. That is why they are professionals. I would have toPlaning/refinishing the fingerboard, like with any non-phenolic fingerboard.

gasp slightly at the idea that just any old guitar tech would have even close to the ability to do this. Wow. I am kind of shocked.. Never in a million years would I trust a box store repair tech (guitar center, sam ash)
or even my local music store tech to do anything like this.
i think he meant to quote pnutz who said he was going to do it himself. Not a chance in hell im messing with all that. i would have a heart attack and my bass aint even mint. What are you talking about? I'm talking about a qualified, trained repairmen (hence the use of the term luthier), not a guy who strings guitars at Guitar Center. Where in there did you think I was suggesting a non-professional??
My point was that any luthier who can handle refinishing a fretless normal wood fingerboard can handle phenolic.
My bad.. I misunderstood what you had said..What are you talking about? I'm talking about a qualified, trained repairmen (hence the use of the term luthier), not a guy who strings guitars at Guitar Center. Where in there did you think I was suggesting a non-professional??
