Modulus Mob

Thanks for the heads up! I think I'm going to have to try one of those bridges, considering Moduli already are known for sustain, I can only imagine what swapping for a 2 Tek will do.

I also forgot to add that I personally do not like the fact that you have to hollow out a good chunk of the body in order to install a 2-Tek bridge. But that's just me.

Also, I could be wrong in that the sustain may be mostly due to the graphite neck. I'm not versed at all in the pros, cons, benefits, and features of graphite. But I would like to think that the 2-Tek bridge is a relevant part of the equation.

Thank you! This is my very first Modulus. I always wanted one ever since I started playing bass back in 1993.

I saw it on Reverb and could not pass it up. It is a 1996 but is practically new! The tone and playability is out of this world. I love the Warwick Thumb tone and this one knocks it out of the park.

That's the EMG's. Can only imagine what EMG's do for fretless tone.

Having that extra mass is probably why that's such a great sounding bridge but I agree with you about the cost of admittance (routing the body) to be a bit steep.

Thanks for the replies. I will give a clockwise quarter turn and see if that does it.

Anything special that I would need to consider with dressing frets on a graphite neck vs wood?
Put a straight edge on the neck running between the strings. Look for a gap between the straight edge and the frets. The neck should nearly flat with small amount of relief. IMO, just turning the truss rod is not a good idea.

Hey guys- I put a deposit (not binding) on a Modulus Q4 in green quilt.
I know a lot about buying a high end bass, but anything I should look for in this particular bass?
I don't now the age. Pics, and salesman say excellent condition.
Approx. $1200 w/ ohsc. Price ok?

Picking it up tomorrow morning, so I don't know if anybody will get back to me in time, but thanks. Purchase us in person, so I'll get to play it.
Pics tomorrow if it follows me home.

I thnk the price is pretty good, depending on the condition of course. The real concern is the neck- if it is a pre-1999/2000 model without a truss rod, is the neck bowed/warped? Do you like the relief, because it’s not very adjustable (different gauge strings and adjusting the bridge are really the only ways, without getting the fingerboard planed). Also, some basses have mositure get under the finish on the necks and get cloudy. I’ve seen some knowledgable people say it’s just cosmetic, but something to keep in mind. If it IS one with a truss/relief rod, keep in mind there’s a dead spot in it when turning, so if you try and adjust it and there’s no immediate results, that’s probably why.

Other than that, it’s pretty much the same as any other bass. Good luck- hope it’s a winner!

Thanks! Just the answers I was looking for. The truss rod (or lack thereof) was a concern.

Thanks for the responses yesterday. I picked up the 2001 Q4. Near perfect condition (some wear on the bridge saddles) in the OHSC. It has a spectacular piece of quilt, and an amazing finishing job.
God...the neck, and a spot on perfect action and set up. Instant love.

That’s exactly how I felt with my 2001 Q4. Favorite bass by far. Love the color of yours. Also like the pickup arrangement.

I know they offer LED’s now. Before the bankruptcy, I was talking to Bass Central about getting a custom Q5 made, and they could send the bass to the UK for the Simms LEDs as well, at the buyer’s expense.

That being said, I’ll be in LA at the beginning of December...

don't think i've ever seen a modulus with the simms setup. very nice. some of the things the seller posted has me scratching my head a bit (new york city? :banghead: the body looks to be standard alder and what's with the receipt?). if anyone's in la la land, feel free to offer up any info! :)
