Modulus Mob

That Blackstone looks amazing... I've been eyeing it for a couple of weeks, but I'm curious if my bass is worth more than $2000 cuz it's a rarity with the tinted neck and all, or if that Blackstone's price should come down. Anyways, thanks for the reply!
For the record, that seller bought that bass for $1800 about 2 months ago, didn’t even bother to change the pictures.

Modulus Quantum 5 String Q5 Trans Black

I think so- they had a bunch of “stone” colors available don’t think there was an “official” transparent black...

Edit: Here’s an old catalog, which agrees with me :D

Just got her back from my luthier. Man is this bass smoking. However, I am having some personal issues and will need to pass her on. bought it from pnutz. Got the action down to .003 relief, frets are cleaned dressed and in perfect condition, had the neck bolt issue repaired. Therefore, this Moddy will go to a new owner at cost + shipping. As I am sure you know, the bass is listed elsewhere, but I will be putting it up on TB classifieds. Pm me. Wanted to offer it up here rather than anywhere else.

Posted on here awhile back about putting a strap nut in my neck to pull it up and change the neck angle. Well, I never did - too worried, and the center of mass is too far up for it to work (unless I put 24 oz by the bridge, a lead disc 3” wide & 1” deep). Also couldn’t find someone to build a strap lock bar that attaches to the neck bolt.

But I might have another solution... I noticed on Spector basses, the bridge nut is up from the center line. When a hold the strap in that location, it seems to let the body sink down a little, effectively giving me the angle I want (off a bit from where I like the bass centered, tho; but it doesn’t hurt my wrist as I move across the fretboard, which is the big issue).

However, I am not really sure if the bass will hang like that naturally, or if the neck weight will pull the head back. I posted in the Spector & set up threads, and people generally feel this would help.

What do you guys think? Also, would adding an extra strap nut there drastically reduce my resale value? Being a working Joe that lives paycheck to paycheck, I always have to keep that in mind. Pic of where I would put the nut.

Modulus Mob, I've got a setup question. I've noticed that my beloved 2000 Q5 has been experiencing some slight fret buzz that has gradually gotten worse over the last couple of years. It's only present if I dig in on the 1-4th frets and I can get around it by playing softer. After changing strings today (with the same brand and gauge that I've always used on this bass), I thought I would tackle the fret buzz. I gave the truss rod a couple of quarter turns and saw little to no difference. Any other suggestions? A couple of quarter turns on my American P bass and I get a decent bit of neck movement. I've never had to change the setup that it came with from the factory 17 years ago and I don't want to do any damage.

Also, I've played this bass at church and other gigs about every other week, on average, for the last 17 years. Could the frets be worn and causing the buzz?

Interesting...because the bass in buzzing below the 5th fret I would have bet that you had a back bow in the neck, meaning that you needed to tighten the truss rod a tad to add some relief (turn it clockwise, as you are looking down the neck towards the bridge). But you tried that, and rarely (if ever) does one have to turn the truss rod more than 1/2 a turn on a well set-up bass (in fact, 1/2 turn is a lot). I had the exact same problem on my Q5 a few years ago when I started using DR Hi-Beams. Hi-Beams have less tension than whatever I was using before, and so the neck developed a back bow. But you haven't changed string gauges or brands, right? I am assuming that you didn't file the nut slots for some reason. By any chance has the nut come loose? And do you have the buzz on all strings below the 5th fret, and with open notes, too?

When I adjusted the neck of my Status (graphite as well); it took several attempts of 1/4 turns. Per the Modulus manual, there is a “dead spot” for the rod, since it is only for adjusting the action and not helping with string tension, so you have to get through that before it takes any effect.

That being said, do it slowly. I have not had to adjust my Q5, but I did the Status over several days as I’m a big chicken about damaging a $2k bass.
