Modulus Mob

Anyone own a 1998 flea? Trying to figure out the differences between 97-98. I know the neck plates went away at some point in 97 and lane poors disappeared close to the same time as the "truss rods" showed up at some point in 99. However, when did the Flea teeth logo go away? Double roller string trees? I cannot find a single photo of a 98 on the net though every other year (some 96 serialed as well).

I got a whale of a deal on a 2000 Flea a week or so back and decided to make it everything I love about the fleas, lightweight as possible and make it look more modern with all black hardware.

New Legacy Lane Poor....if there is a difference between these and the originals, I myself cannot see or hear a single difference (I have both this and the original). The Duncan it came with sounded close.....mostly on the A string. E was just a bit subdued and the D-G strings were quieter like most stingrays. Popped the Legacy in....and AHH, there it is! It has an Aguilar OBP3 that I set the mid pot to flat and tucked into the cavity. I wanted to both black it out and put it on a diet. Aluminum hipshot B-bridge, US ultralite tuners (with detuner), Hipshot o-ring aluminum knobs. In all, it lost around 1/3 of a pound. Worth it? Eh. Looks good and I finally got my ultimate player that I am not afraid to gig.

Yes, that is what it looks like to me. I almost didn’t notice the 5 knobs, that top is so nice...
yeah, the top grabbed my attention immediately. don't really see many quantums with that particular knob layout. i've seen some of geoff's creations with that knob layout from about 10 years ago. this bass is a 2012.
That is a work of art!!
it is! it's a local craigslist listing. it's very nice but am leaving my piggy bank intact for now. that is, unless you decided to release 'mathilda' onto the open market! :D :roflmao: ;) :bassist:

Lovely. EMG magic. Bet that MWAH has character.
What's the poly finish color/ body wood ? Pre? Grats.

Funny enough I’m not an emg fan at all so the pickups and pre won’t be in here long. It’s an EMG 3 band preamp. The body is figured maple top on alder body. The finish is trans wine. The sustain is nuts and consistent from top to bottom. The exact reason I wanted it.

hey guys whats the difference in tone between a modulus q5 with two pickups and a q5 with one sweet spot pickup?
"Sweet Spot" refers to the string area distance from the bridge where
optimal string vibration relative to desired tone is achieved. Similar
concept for tennis/ racquetball rackets where optimal string tension
is neither too tight nor too loose. Generally acknowledged location
in the area where CLF placed the P Bass pickup to get a mid frequency
tone as opposed to the J Bass neck/ bridge placements. Otherwise
it's mathematics and marketing. .02

The ABM bridges are lacking intonation screws, which is why I don’t care for them.
I would like to find a picture history of all of the ABM bridge models because I've seen older models with intonation screws and some of the Peavey Millenniums and Cirrus' had ABM's with intonation too. The newest version does have them. Although I'm one of the people who've found them easy to adjust without the extra screws. Need to update my post...I'm pretty sure the bridges on the Peavey basses that have adjustable intonation are Hipshot

interesting... when i contacted the seller thru their c-list ad, they sent a follow up communique that the bass was going overseas tonight (wednesday) if it didn't sell. sales 'ploy' perhaps but just wanted to put this out there if someone was interested.

as an aside, the seller mentioned that it weighs 10.2 lbs. but that they weren't sure on the accuracy of the scale. and it's 2 3/4" at the 24th fret (17mm at the bridge).

“Ebony fingerboard” really?!?!
not defending the seller's listing (or knowledge) of the fretboard, but did pre-bankruptcy modulus ever use an ebony board? or was it ever offered as an option?

i definitely have egg on my face since i've recently goofed in that arena.

a bass of mine (gould ggi5/graphite neck) has a fretboard which i assumed was phenolic. posited a question to geoff one day (fretboard had cracks) and he basically let me know i had an ebony board. the ebony board is jet black with no colors/striations i could see that would make me assume otherwise.

Not everyone is as knowledgable as us TBers ;)

I don’t recall seeing any, but...

  1. Before I left in '95, we almost never used ebony at Modulus.
  2. At GGould, there has been one or two ebony boards, but I'm pretty sold on never doing another, unless gold bullion is involved!
  3. If that MG bass is indeed a bubinga, someone may be in for a rude surprise if they try and export it!

guys about to buy this bass and noticed its got a chip on the back of neck. Is that fixable? Does it affect playibility at all? Can i just spot fill it so its smooth?
