Modulus Mob

First off, I'm proud to say that I will officially be back in the Mob in a couple of days and can't wait!!! I'll be sure to post pics when she arrives :)

Anywho, I just ordered a set of D'addario EXL170-5's for my Q5, does any one else use these? I want to be sure they're going to fit before opening them, and am curious how you guys like the tone and feel. I'm usally a DR guy but I had some eBay bucks to use and it worked out perfectly with the D's.

Thanks guys, it's good to be back

IW, I use the D'Addario EXL170-5sl's and they are great. These are actually the strings that Modulus uses on their basses (these are just the 'retail' version) but that is what Joe at Modulus told me to use. I think the 'sl' stands for super long maybe? Not sure if they are all like that.

Great looking Mod!! and welcome back!

I've got some serious GAS going for a Flea bass (I refuse to call it a Funk Unlimited), but there's no way I can adjust to only four strings. Being that the Flea bass is 34" scale, how is the low B in terms of sound and floppiness?

Actually the low B on the Flea 5er's are surprisingly tight and good. I've had 2 and honestly was my favorite Mod model to play live.
Very versatile and comfy to play. That model will be my return to Mod fame.

Here are a couple pics of the new (to me) Modulus!

Super sexy! I've been holding off on posting my Q5. She's getting some work done to her right now (ditching the EMGs, adding Duncans and a new pre). As soon as she's back I've got to post!

Best feeling 35" scale fiver for the money, imo.

It's settled then.

Does anyone know where I might find some audio clips comparing the Quantum sound to the Flea bass side by side? And, for that matter, what on earth does the Vertex sound like. I've pretty much determined that I'll be actively pursuing a Modulus, but there aren't any available in my area to compare for myself and I want to learn more.

You'll need the 170-5SL's (SL for Super Long) for sure. The B on the 170-5 set will start to taper on the first fret. I made this mistake on my Q6 with the 170-6 set. All the other strings were OK though. Beautiful Mod by the way. Congrats.

Hey and thanks. I actually got the set a couple days ago and the B tapers just before the nut, so no problems there. I really dig the sound and bounce they have compared to the DR's which are much higher tension. The price ain't bad either! :)

You guys will love this....so I get a Modulus VJ4 body....and I want to put some EMG JV pups in it (they are active)...and there is nowhere to put the battery in the bass...so I took a saw to the control cavity yesterday so I could slide the battery over just a tad....I was scared but it came out a success...I am going to cut out some more today when I get home.

Sweet blog, huh?

Now I just need a neck!!!!!!!!!!!
