Monster Cables vs. Planet Waves

Monster Cables VS. Planet Waves

Which do you prefer of the two?
Now, I have been able to turn in some 6 year old monster cables for brand new ones without the receipt (which is awesome), but it seems like the newer monster cables have some connectivity issues with a couple of my basses, which is not ideal.

I've never had a problem with the planet waves ones, but I've also never had to utilize their return policy.

Both sound fine to me, but I'm interested in other peoples experience with the two brands.

...feel free to mention other cable manufactures that you love, but the poll is between these two widely available brands!

Thanks,

Matt

Please search on "monster" in the amps and effects forums, and you will see a great deal of discussion of why they are bogus overpriced crap, as well as suggestions for actually worthy cable choices. Short version: Go with Canare or Mogami (IMO).

I've used 12' & 20' angled/straight Monster Cable instrument cables for 10 years and their speaker cables for about the same. And in that time I've only had to replace the 12 footer once and that was because I had repeatedly dropped one end of it on the stage and it screwed up the jack. I got that one replaced noquestions asked and the new one has been with me for about 4 years. I have never had any problems with that cable with any of my basses. The sound has always been great with every Monster cable I've ever owned.
Lately I've been trading off to a 10' Planet Waves angled/straight cable and I gotta tell ya I can't hear any difference in sound. And I'm really starting to like it more because the outer jacket is a lot more flexible than the Monster cable cord. I have 2 of these cables and plan on using them for the near future and using the Monster cables as spares. )-(

I quit using monster cables after having to replace two input jacks on my basses. Their tight fit is because they have an slightly oversized jack on their cables. This bend the input jack and can cause crackling connections. Some brands of gear will say not to use Monster Cable for this reason. There are lots of good cables out their that don't damage your gear.

I did not vote. I did not like the Planet Waves cable ends. They have that sure lock thing or what ever it is called on it and I always had a hard time getting it connected completely. Monster Cables are just STUPID expensive and really for no good reason. There are even some manufacturers that state in the operation manuals to NOT USE Monster Cables. I don't know why. I had a Monster Cable, but I just did not notice any sort of difference at all.
I currently us all George Ls cables. I love them. $35 for a 20 foot cable and they are really easy to use and good to go.

^^^^ Totally agree. I'd also add to get the Canare or Magami cable custom made to your specs from Butch at Bayou Cables!
+1
I have some of his cables made with Canare cable and Neutrik ends. They sound great and they aren't that expensive compared to the low end stuff you can get at Guitar Center. The only downside is that it takes a few weeks to get them, but completely worth the wait IME.

I doubt that there is anybody here (or anywhere) that can tell the difference between a rig wired up with Monster cables versus Planet Waves cables by listening. Much of the supposed advantages to Monster cables is marketing hype bolstered by tests that require high precision signal measurement devices that might actually show some superiority to their cables ... in frequency ranges orders of magnatudes above what is audible.

Considering Monster Cable's lawsuit policy, I will not be buying any more cables from them.
