You might find out that getting the Metroline might make you not want to to pickup your Metro Express version . But I could be wrong. Have you officially retired the Peavey ?

I actually got the metro express modern because I was curious. I have NYCs, MIJs and a German Modern. I ended up upgrading the pickups and the bridge on the Metro modern and it made a HUGE difference. I went with Nordstrand pickups which had a little more beef to them and seem to be more 3d sounding comparatively. The metro express is a 4 the MIG is a 5 and it is definitely a different sounding bass. I think the woods play into the overall sound. I don't think the two moderns sound alike, but are definitely in the same general area. I think the change in pickups gave the instrument it's own sound

The feel. They just feel like a better built and better playing bass than the German ones to me. May be the neck shape. May just be the little things, not sure. But I have played them side by side.

Sound wise, I don't think there is really any difference.

I'm fortunate enough to have German and Japanese Sadowskys, as well as an NYC. They're all fantastic, imo, but the Japanese ones definitely have a different feel to them than the German ones. My two MIJs have a very substantial, bulletproof feel to them, where the MIGs are lighter due to chambering, with a smoother feel to the necks.

Maybe that's what it is. While my Japanese Sadowsky modern isn't really heavy (it's right at 9 lbs) it feels so solid that It almost feels like it is carved from granite, if that makes any sense.
