I run the compressor before the wah. There is a good YouTube video, that shows how to get a good Cliff Burton tone. I can't remember to find it, but he just used a small practice amp and used a boss compressor, vintage reissue Big Muff and a vintage Morley Power Wah Fuzz. It sounded pretty spot on.

Just ordered this on Front End Audio for $158. I have one of the originals from the late 70's. It's seen better days, the piece of canvas that acts as the light blocker inside the pedal turned brittle, so the sweep range is gone. I've tried reforming it, but it doesn't give the same response. Hopefully this new one is as bad ass as the original!!

Just got to play through this today, its awesome, a little goes a long way with the treadle, the "fuzz" is great on it(though it sounds more like distortion)...

I tried it before my dirt pedals(fulltone OCD and bassdrive, and rat tail/greystache combo pedal) and while the full tone's and rat tail fared well, the greystache killed the sweep on this....

for now, I left only my OCD/bassdrive combo on my board, the Morley sounds better to me after dirt, I'll give the rat/muff another chance in the next few days!!

my conclusion, this pedal does exactly what it says, it gets you that famous cliff Burton sound without fail!!!

Hi!

Can someone that have got the settings right for this pedal to get the right tone post your settings here please?
Mine did not work properly when I had it between the compressor (boss cs 3) and the big muff. Got no sweep.
And putting it after next to the amp made it better but not sounding right anyway. Not nearly sounding as good as the video posted here with the vintage.
Yes Im a noob and would really like to get some help, I have never tested the vintage one so I can not compare.

My line now: bass- compressor-big muff-morley-amp

I think I tested that yesterday. It was 4 hours of turning knobs and put pedals in different order. But I will test it again today and we will see if it works :-)
And I get it that everyone gets a different tone but mine was so far away from what I expected so lets hope it works out :-)

So what are the overall verdicts of those who have grabbed one and has had some time with them??

I was speaking to hintz a bit last week I think it was a little bit about it. Im so used to my 105q. I think every wah should be designed this way (the way the treadle is what engages it with no actual footswitch to hit). But I guess I could get used this this kind. Just the fact that I would have to hit the fs then go to the wah would be something way new to me. If I put it in a loop though and just leave it on all the time, that would work too. I guess.

So is the treadle spring loaded or does it just flop so to speak?

Good bass response??

Im still very much wanting to try this things. Seems like it would be way gnarly. And from what you guys are saying, the sweep is very good. So when alls said and done, the sweep is the most important thing to me with a wah. Bass response actually is but I guess that sort of has to do with the sweep. A little anyway.

It is not Spring Loaded it just stays wherever your foot last had it. I really wish the wah engaged like the 105q but you can work around that. I've practiced putting my toes on the treadle and cutting the switch on/off with the heel of my foot. I imagine if that was inconvenient because of the small space around the on switch you could use a "Pancake-end" pedal cable with an LS2 sideways positioned very close right at the bottom of the Morley so that you could use your heel right below the treadle to cut it on quicker.

It is mind-bogglingly simple to wire up a true hardwire bypass switch to Morley wah pedals that turns the pedal off and on when you push it down. I did that in 1987 to my Morley black gold fuzz wah.

It is about as simple as simple can get. These pedals are simple internally. I just wired a SPST switch like you find in a CryBaby to the output jack. Click once and the signal at the input jack goes straight to the output jack. Click again and the signal goes through the wah circuitry.

I drilled a hole under the toe of the pedal to mount the switch. These pedals are simple to take apart. Now it has a true bypass. It was a massive pain in the ass switching two switches (fuzz and wah) whenever I wanted to turn the pedal on with distortion and wah...now I can leave the fuzz and wah set as I want and can actually bypass the entire thing just by pushing the pedal down, as it should be.

And, on the black gold fuzz wah, it had a design flaw in that even when the fuzz and wah were turned off it acted as a volume pedal. It had NO way to truly bypass it. And, the volume pedal aspect sucked; it ALWAYS cut signal not matter what you did. It never let the full signal through. It wasn't usable from the factory without a true bypass...which it now has.

Simple electronics couldn't get any simpler than wiring a bypass switch in one of these pedals. ANYONE can do it.

thanks for the info, this is a great idea, I bookmarked this for when I have time/tools...

I actually stopped using the fuzz on this as any dirt feeding into it sounds very close to the cliff sound....

to gregmon, the bass disappears at the height of the sweep(or treadle down), same as cliff's lead sound in this same spot and I will say a little goes a long way with the sweep more than the few Dunlop bass wah I've tried... So if retaining bass is a priority, maybe a clean blend??!!

I wouldn't use the fuzz on this alone....i can get close enough to the cliff sound with my full tone OCD or bassdrive before it, I might have this mod ggoat mentioned, but I'm not gonna do it myself, I've never modified anything yet, not about to start on a almost $200 pedal....im very happy with it either way!!!

I got the BOSS GT-6B BASS EFFECTS PROCESSOR, and on it it has a factory setting called METALLIC SOLO and it's the exact sound of Cliff Burton's Bass solo sound in the song ORION, off MASTER OF PUPPETS. I could not believe it when I ran in to that setting, AWESOME!!!!

After spending some time with this Morley, I finally ran it through my ls2 as a clean blend..... Wow, its awesome, such a difference!!
The best part is can leave the ls2 engaged and with the treadle up you can't hear any of the fuzz or wah tone unless I depress the treadle, so I don't have quickly or accurately turn it on or off, I can just leave it on all the time if I want, and if the powers of Cliff inspire me, I can just depress to get that "WHOAH" or WHEEEE" sound;)

My ls2 settings "A plus B mix".... "A" about 9:30, "B"(my clean signal) just past noon on Morley fuzz on vintage, intensity 3:00 volume at 9:00, and Wah volume at 3:00.... Now I loose zero bottom with this!!!
