Most aggressive bass tone?

John Wetton's tone on King Crimson's "Red" is extremely aggressive. It's one of the most aggressive bass tones I've ever heard. It fits the purely evil character of the King Crimson of that era. The character of the band on a whole is MUCH more evil than many of the modern metal scenes lame attempts to out-evil itself.

Man, you guys have gotta listen to the original poster! Manowar has far more aggressive bass tone than any of these other bands. I'm not saying Manowar has my FAVORITE bass tone...I find the treble part often sits in he mix right in the same place that the guitar does....so it sounds a little less defined within the songs than it could. I do love Manowar though. Listen to the bass solo called 'thunderpick' on Sign of the Hammer. its ridiculous, and I can't honestly say I like it very much...but its incredibly aggressive.

That would be Vail Johnson with Kenny G.

No, seriously though? My vote would be for Mike Watt or Timmy C.

Watch out, though! There's some smokin' Larry Graham stuff out there, too!
There is a very amusing video from the 80's under the name "Star Licks All Star Bass Series: Bass As A Solo Instrument" that features a very peculiar interviewer and Larry Graham as one of ten featured bassists and man, if what he was playing wasn't raw! When he kicks in that Roland Jet Phaser! Damn!

I'm not sure I get this one, Vail has superb tone, not the most aggressive but he sounds great on his Kubicki basses. The only reason I would ever listen to a Kenny G live record!
I try not to miss out on any opportunities to poke fun at Kenny G.
It's not so much a slam on Vail as it is Mr. Gorelick and the style (lifestyle?).

With all the inevitable votes for super-heavy dudes like Lemmy, etc. I thought it might be a funny change of pace. :)
Not funny anymores! :smug:
