Most aggressive Precision setup?

I've never seen anyone using 2M volume pots in a bass, and with pots that bright, you would definitely want a tone control so that you can pull out some of the high end when you need to.
That's just ridiculous.

Haha, I can understand - but some people like the "direct to jack" sound, and really don't have any use for a tone control. To make me seem more sane, I have a darker setting on one of the presets on my Tri-Ac preamp.

And yes, my volume knob is more of an on-off switch.

I only use one setting on my Ric 4003 bass also. bridge pup, tone and volume all the way up. The distance is greater from the bridge on the Ric's bridge pup than a J-bass', and it doesn't really sound too thin or have that "nasal" quality I so despise.

Yeah, I usually prefer the purest signal possible (high pot values and a minimum number of pots in the circuit) but I like having volume and tone controls so that I can turn down the brightness when I need to as opposed to being stuck with it.

Your 2M volume acting more as a switch is exactly the kind of behavior I would expect of a value that high.
If you want the direct to jack sound, it would be better to use an on/off push/pull switch to toggle between a 500K volume and straight to jack wiring.

Skip the tone pot, and just use a 1 meg or 2 meg volume pot...

Should sound nice and aggressive.
well yeah, but at the price of losing your volume taper and of course losing the tone control.

really though, in most cases you hit the "diminishing returns" curve at around 500k. the difference between 250k and 500k is noticeable, the diff between 500k and 1M barely so (except for the poor sweep of the pot) and the diff between 1 or 2M and straight wire not at all.

500ks will be plenty aggressive, (too much so for some people but i like it), while still having a usable control range.

I have a westbury track 2 with a p pickup/circuit that i'll be working on at some point during the year, some of these posts are very interesting. what i'm aiming for is an aggressive tone (both pick or fingers) when everything is on full, to a more vintage tone with fingers when the tone is rolled off, and also something that can handle distortion fairly well, would the pots/caps mentioned above work well?

This is the body. I'm not adding any routes, but thanks for suggesting it.

I was going to suggest a MM route in the bridge... I play a SCP/MM setup right now and it kicks serious butt. Great mix of MM growl with Fender thump.

I can only suggest using no-load pots, then.
