I really need to try those, they are made very close to me, but so far, all the soundclips I’ve heard are with these “single coil style” humbuckers, which I don’t dig much
Anyone has soundclips with standard single coils?

Elegance - "the quality of being pleasingly ingenious and simple; neatness." Pulled from a random online dictionary. Who knows how accurate that should be presumed to be but I stand by my summation.
The abstract design of the P-bass is incredibly elegant. The actual implementation less so, IMO.
A lot of posters here bring up simplicity when regarding the term elegance. I'm surprised that I didn't mention this one, but I refer Anthony Jackson's Presentation II often - the one to his specifications. Holly topwood, alder body and ebony fingerboard. Completely passive and beautiful!
+1 on the Fender Jazz being one of the most elegant designs of all time IMHO.
Alas, it is also the most often copied design of all time, so maybe do please look elsewhere for inspiration for your build. (I am partial to Tobias & Ken Smith, though one could argue that already too many exotic builds are trying to look like them.)

The Mosrite shape caught my eye in the early 60's and I have always liked the curves of the carved top and the overall design. Here is a picture of an original Mosrite and my own build of a 5-string concept.

I think my 1965 Jazz Bass is elegant, especially with the chrome pickup covers installed. They are impractical but look great.
