Most Playable Bass?

My MTD Kingston 4. Neck radius, narrow nut width and the asymetrical neck profile make it very comfortable to play. Good weight, and the action is where I like it, and can take it down a good bit lower, should I ever break myself of being a heavy handed player. (Not that I can fire arrows off of my current height, mind you.)

I have about 20 basses, ranging from acceptable (only 1 that I keep for sentimental reasons) to exceptional. Each is different, so "most" depends on context. For now, I'm gonna give the overall nod to my Marco Cortes P, though depending on mood and music it can shift.

I guess it's like picking your best-driving car. Road, racetrack, dirt trail, or rock crawling? This is why I have a zillion of 'em.

I absolutely love Aerodyne Jazz necks! And while I've been able to adapt to the sharper-edged forearm cut (FYI…it's a great way to teach you to keep your forearm up and off the body), I'm terribly happy with the Mighty Mite Jazz body I scored. 'Tis as lightweight as it is beautiful! So, I gotta go with my "Projekt Blue" parts-bass.

EDIT: Upon further reflection, I feel the need to give a big ol' Honorable-Mention/Shout-Out to the Squier Classic Vibe Jazz. Every one I've encountered has been incredibly "playable", neck and body alike. And they sound pretty damn good too! If I found myself ever in need of an amazing bang-for-the-buck in a hurry, I'd snap one up in a heartbeat…doubly-so if it's a James Johnston-sig Jazz (basically, a CV-J in disguise)!

Now *that* is breathtaking!

I've only got one that's twitchy... an older Gibson Thunder Series five-string. It's got a mahogany set-neck, and maybe that has nothing to do with it, but I'm forever having to tweak the truss-rod one way or the other to keep the action like I prefer it. All the rest of my basses, -especially the Alembics and Turners- are extremely stable.

For me my 1975 Gibson Ripper purchased brand new back then. I can lose myself for hours playing it

Believe it or not for me it was my 90's LB70 Carvin....NEVER had any issues with anything (after I replaced the pickups)
I do miss that basses playability.
After that would be my parts bass. Plays great and sounds great.

Maybe a Rickenbacker with neck binding. Ibanez makes some basses with similar neck profiles, or used to. A lot of it depends on hand anatomy, and what feels most comfortable.

Human Base Basex-oc5. For me it's ergonomically perfect.

My custom 32" Zon VB-4 is absurdly playable. It's so perfectly constructed that I can maintain much lower action than other basses without undue buzz even though I don't have a light touch. The reduced scale length, small body, and very light weight (I doubt it's over 7 lbs) only add to it.

I still often fall back on my trusty Carvin LB70 for purely tonal reasons, but if I was going to play for hours on end the Zon would be the clear choice for my kranky muscles.
