Double Bass Moving to St. Louis

Texas is the center of the BBQ universe in my books.
The BBQ universe ends at the Sabine and Red Rivers. The stuff beyond the borders is interesting , but..... cole slaw and mustard on the bbq is different.

Dont forget Luling, Llano and Lexington in addition to Lockhart.

Kreuz's opened a store in College Station, but it closed.

Stay out of East St. Louis. Not even on Sunday.

Got dang it Groot, tell it like it T. I. S.!

Got me breaking out the Waylon.

Best fried chicken I ever had was in St. Louis.....................

Lulling is very serious. I hit up the real Lulling City market two years ago driving from Houston to San Antonio.

No more dangerous than any other big city. Just depends on the neighborhood.

That's right. St. Louis metropolitan area is really huge and sprawling, with over 90 municipalities just on the Missouri side (wait 'til you figure out the city/county thing!). The dangerous areas are pretty small. Just need to use your eyes and your head, as anywhere else.

Yeah no. St Louis is the most dangerous city in the U.S. currently, according Wikipedia by a significant amount. I'm sure some places are safer and others much more dangerous, but crime stats tell the story. Avoid the lawless places, keep in the crowd and your head on swivel and you're likely not to experience any issues. Load your bass out to your car alone at 2am... might be wise to have a couple of big guys along, or only 20 feet between.

It’s not like that and the stat is for saint louis city which doesn’t include the county or metro east area. Take it from someone who lives here. Wikipedia isn’t the source for those kind of things. It’s a great place to live just like any other metro area. Go to Chicago sometime and listen to the gunfire sometime, that garbage never happens around here

Yeah, of course, stats, who need 'em? And you have so much credibility because you have no obvious bias. Yes, that was sarcasm. You're in denial. I sympathize.

I live in LA. Some REALLY bad neighborhoods, as bad as East St Louis and not necessarily where the media might suggest, and I can tell you first hand stories, but it's still much better than St Louis. I've only been mugged twice in 25 years and have never had anything stolen. The times I was mugged, once I fought my way out and the other I bought my way out of it with $20 held up as I walked through 5 youngin's threatening me with a machete. But I wasn't trying to protect my bass or equipment.

Good lord, I’ve lived all over the US, from Miami to here to Baltimore and visited all over through my years. My point is Wikipedia isn’t reputable. At all. The only place someone tried to mug me was when I lived in the Keys. Stupid people do stupid things. No accounting for common sense.
Still, the stat applies to the city, not the county or the metro area. Take any one of the areas by you and the stats can be skewed any which you need it.
No bias here, we live here due to cost of living and proximity to family. All personal happenings that happen to us, happen because stupid people do stupid things.
That’s universal.

Fair enough. I'll be the first to agree that stats can be misleading. OTOH, I'm very dubious of anecdotal stories... mine included, so, can you post better stats than what's on Wikipedia about the crime stats in St Louis?
As a guess, I'll say that there might be some variance, but that St Louis will still be in the "top 10 most dangerous cities in the U.S.". You can split that, property crime, personal crime, violent crime, I'm guessing St Louis metro is still in the top 10 for violent crime.
But, show us your stats. Maybe I'm wrong.

What redstrand was alluding to is that you have to be careful what you mean when you say "St. Louis." A number of bad decisions and policies over the last 150 years - including entrenched systemic racism - have made this area a study in contrasts. There are gorgeous areas, and there are areas that look a little like war zones.

The CITY of St. Louis has a population estimated at 317,000, but the Greater St. Louis area is the 19th largest metro area in the US with a population of 2.85 million. The CITY of St. Louis does indeed have a very high crime rate. The area as a whole has crime rates which are, yes, higher than national averages but not markedly so - and that could be a result of the city's stats. And when you do go "into the city," say to attend the symphony or a Cardinals game, common-sense care and vigilance is all you need. If you look at the right side of the Wiki page I think you're looking at, you'll see the stats for both the city and the area. They are quite different.

Thank you, That's the point I was less eloquently getting across.
