Mudvyane bassist is badass

Went to buy it and they didnt have it in Virgin, so I bought Dre's newie instead and its complete crap.

Yeah I think his best bass playing is on -1, Cradle, Severed, and Under My Skin. But hell I like 'em all.
bought the cd about a month and a half ago. i have tried to get into it, but it just isn't happening. i have a super nice stereo in my car and room, and have even tried messin with the eq's to get a nice blend, but it just doesn't work out great for me. if the rest of the band let the bassist go a little more, then i'd start recomending the cd to friends. later
I too heard Dig and laughed my ass off, but a pal of mine sent me this mp3 and it wasn't nearly as bad as that. I'm still not into it, but I wouldn't go as far as to say that their bass player sucks. Dig, seriously, is probably the worst song I have heard in my life by the way. I mean no offense, but that guy's voice is hilarious and they look like clowns who got kicked out of the circus because they got caught using acid. I still need to hear more of their stuff to form an opinion though, and I'm not really into this whole metal genre.
I was blown away the first time i heard him play. Thats probebly cuz i suck at bass... but i think he has a lot of talent. He tunes Standard too. And the fact that he can play all that **** while going absolutly NUTS on stage is very cool.
I love this band now, got there cd recently (Admitably because of the bassist), but it takes some time to get used to. Very agressive, and the guy does scream a hellovalot, but when he actually sings on some songs, he is a pretty good singer. Well back to the bassist. I can easilly put him near the top of my influence list. He fills in alot of space. I never had any problems hearing him on any of the songs. He allways comes out clear to me, alot of times his sound seams to be more outfront then the guitar. Very very talented bassist, if your into heavy music with intelegent lyrics(Once you actually figure out what the hell he's saying) this is a very good band. But definatly not for everyone. They've admited the make up is because they want to put on a visuall as well as musical show. (though the guitarist does look like a lady bug on crack). Anywho I'll stop rambling and jumping around on subjects now. Buh bye!
I gotta agree with you on the lyrics. I got em from teh Mudvayne site, and man, blew the doors off what I already thought of them. I just "dig" them as a whole unit. I can't say enough good things about them. And I gotta say, their Bassist is the blue print for waht I want to do. Oddly enough, I already knew what I wanted to do, but he proved it could be done without screwing with the heaviness. Mudvayne!
For the EQ- Boost the bass, slighly boost mids, leave treble alone. SHould bring up the Bass more, and get the "true" Mudvayne sound you'd get in a live setting.
Ryknow does not tune standard. Read the article in BP this month.. his 5-string tuning is GCGCF.

You don't want to do that. Trust me.
The facepaint just makes the show more entertaining, and gives you a reason to go see whoever live really.......
But the music is always more important. A good show with excellent music is one of the most powerful things you'll experience.
Wes.. the Mudvayne guy definitely tunes to the G below E. He said in the interview that his 4th string is a .130, so you know that his lowest string is that low, low G. And it wouldn't necessarily be floppy.. ask JT, he has a low F# on a couple of his basses.
The F# would blow on your ESP. I wouldnt bother unless you also wanted to spend the money on a new amp setup (an expensive one).
I don't necessarily think that expensive equipment is all that necessary. Ryknow used one single 8X10 when I saw them in concert. Granted, that isn't cheap, but its not that much money...he doesnt get much fundemental out of that low G, but it sounded good! He used a SVT2 for power also. He is a good bassist, I wasn't convinced until I got the CD, its got some great playing on it. Right now, there are no bass players playing "nu-metal" that can touch him!
