I played one this weekend at GC, the tryout conditions were far less than optimal. There was a guy jaming with a budy on one of the Markbass amps playing a mediocre metal tune. I plugged into a marginal Ampeg combo, sound wise it was hard to tell, and sadly it had a GC set up and badly needed some love and care by a decent tech. The workmanship like most Music Man's appeared excellent, they are certainly one of the best production basses on the market. OTOH, the neck was not my thing, long, thin, and round. I like a flatter profile. I doubt I could get with one even if I was enthralled with the tone.

I had to order some extra long strings, so I had an excuse to play that Caprice again. The neck is small and round, like the Sterling, or a slightly fatter version of the Peavey Foundation neck. I doubt it, but I hope that bass hangs around until I can buy it!

Oh man. My master plan was to buy a blue and a black, then swap the necks so I could have black/maple and blue/rosewood. I have the blue one ...

But the blue one is so nice I think I wont mess with it.

I just bought the black one....buy a blue and we'll swap necks!

The Caprice neck is on the right. I think it is a smidge thicker than the Sterling on the left. A Caprice will be my next bass for sure.

At first, I wasn't impressed by the shape. If a Jazz is a horse and the Precision is a donkey, the Caprice is a freakin' mule. Then I played one at GC and was blown away. I learned to love the Bongo. I can definitely learn to love the Caprice.

That was my experience. I didn't expect much, but my jaw dropped when I played. When I have the spare dollars, I will buy one.

I'm gonna bide my time. In a couple of years, there will be some caprices floating in the used market.

I like your attitude. I'm mainly a five string player, and what I have really works for me. There is certainly no need for me to rush into buying another bass.

I love passive fours and I hear tones that interest me a lot. MM did a good job coming up with their own flavor of styling.
