Music Man Custom Design Experience coming!

This is cool and I hope they expand the options (if it makes sense costwise).

Options I'd love to see:
  • No-pickguard option
  • Hipshot D-tuner
  • Rear-routed controls option (automatic if no-pickguard on SR5s)
  • Add single-coil and P pickup options (as seen on the Joe Dart models)
  • Offer the Short-Scale Stingray with most, if not all the same options
  • Upcharge for more finishes (they could have different tiers of solids, translucents, metallics, flakes, bursts)
Randomly, I really wish they'd redesign the Short-Scale's headstock to be more like the Reflex / Game Changer - smaller, more compact, and with straight string pull. The splayed-out strings just bug me.

Also, wouldn't it be cool if you could get sculpted horns like on the SR5 on the regular 4-string? I think it'd look sleeker.
Plus 1 on the no pick guard option.

I find the options all very attractive. I like the Pau Ferro finger boards I have played and I thought EBMM have traditionally used Pau Ferro for their fretless fingerboards on Stingrays. I also like the 17.5 mm bridge spacing so much I have three of them.

I see a sparkly, two humbucker, no pickguard (if offered), five string fretless in my future.

To me this is just them going back to what they used to do. Of course now there will probably be an upcharge for this.

Back in the day you could pick your color of bass from what they had to offer at the time, pick guard, pickup configuration and neck options.

They stopped doing that and you could only pick the basses they were currently building. Only option would be H or HH pickup.

Custom design is just marketing. You pick from the standard options like you did in the past. Not like you can get anything that is not on the menu

But is good that they are offering things they have not for a while like the SLO neck and fretless.

Wish they would bring back the single coil and piezo options

I has my own custom design experience this week. I took this new bass and this bass I already owned.

Does anyone know the actual date that the CDE will be on the EBMM site? All they say is Spring, so March 19? That's next Tuesday! Just curious if anybody heard the actual date.

Based on the color board, it looks like they're bringing back standard sunburst, cherry burst and the old honey burst + a trans gold and trans orange. I know there are others. I'm only interested in the trans and burst colors. Purple Sunset and Hot Honey are tempting, but I'm really just trying to recreate the bass I had many years ago that was stolen shortly after I bought it in the early 80s - a early 1980s Stingray 4H in sunburst / rosewood board / black pick guard, but in the new Stingray Special for the light weight :) !

Based on my experience in the software biz, "spring" means any time before June 20. And "April" means any time in April up to 11:59 P.M. April 30. Dunno how superstitious the Ernie Ball folks are, but they may not want to launch a new project on April Fools' Day. Might be fun, though!
