Music Man Custom Design Experience coming!

Question for y'all... I am gonna sell my Stambaugh fretless 5 in the future to get a fretless HH, but part of the reason I'm doing so is because I need a lighter bass... it's why sold my '11 5h for the Special 5hh. But there's no point in me doing so if I end up with a bass only a few oz. lighter. I lucked out because my new HH is about a pound and a half less than my old 5h. Do any of you think if I was doing a custom shop order, I could request a lighter weight piece of wood? The last thing on earth I want is to shell out 3k for a bass and have it end up weighing what my other one does. Don't want to take that kind of gamble.

I can’t say for sure . My custom turned out to be quite a few ounces lighter than the one I already had. I ordered the same exact bass and finish with a matching headstock. Most of what I’ve seen lately has been nice and light . I’d take a chance.

Not sure and I'm not sure if anyone else here has ever requested a light body but I'd suggest asking EBMM directly if that is something they'd be able to accommodate once the design experience is up and running.

Yeah, I don't know about taking a chance. I lucked out and got an 8 lb 2 oxzbass, but there were plenty 5HH's on Sweetwater that weighed up to 9lbs 14oz, which actually weighs more than my old '11 5H. If I spent 3k+ on this and got a bass that weighs more than the one I'm replacing, I'd be pissed.

I will reach out to EBMM and see what they say. Thanks.

I certainly can't blame you of that. I was thinking that you were not pleased with your current fretless for some reason (other than the weight).

Does anyone know if MusicMan offers or might offer good financing options for this program? I got my 5hh through Sweetwater because of the 48 month interest free (no way I would have one, otherwise).

I have still been obsessing over a 5HH fretless ever since my fretted came last week.

They offer financing with Affirm through their web shop. I can imagine it will be also be an option for the build to order models.

Ugh... Affirm... get zero percent interest when you pay your 3500 dollar bass off in 6 months!

Looks like I'd better start saving up.

24 months no interest. I have used Affirm several times on EBMM's website with no complaints. Given current interest rates, it is definitely worth taking advantage of the free financing.

been wanting a StingRay so this is perfect timing. The only worrisome thing is that I don't think I see a Mint Green colour option... there is one that may be close on the "wall" they showed in the NAMM video. I missed out on an Old Smoothie and I want to cop that colour scheme exactly for this. I hope I am wrong...

It's up! doesn't appear to be linked on the site yet, but I found it through a search.

Custom Design Experience | Ernie Ball Music Man

nice! of course they show surf green/mint in the main link here, but it's not a featured option sadly. I guess I'll just keep trying to find a used one.

edit: "cool cactus satin" looks *kind of* close, but since it's a new colour, I cannot find ANY photos of this anywhere. With this being 4-6 months with no refunds or changes, I'll be waiting for some real world pics first. Extremely, extremely bummed they don't offer mint/surf... they'd have an additional 3,000 USD right this moment if they did lol.

I don't think the CDE is ready to go yet - just tried it - some options don't load.

Just messed with it again - got all the options I wanted, but no option for matching headstock - not sure if that's going to be an option. Maybe it IS good to go, BUT you'd think there would be a link from the main site.
