I am on the hunt for a Stingray Classic like this one, hoping to find one at 9.2 lbs or under. If you know of anyone, please send them my way; I have funds, TIA.

Now, a black guard on a sunburst body with a matching headstock and a rosewood board, that's really nice too... as on my 2019 neck-through SR5 HH.

Hey TB community,

I am new to Music Man basses and need some insight. I have an opportunity right now to straight trade my MIM Player Jazz Bass for a new SBMM Ray34 Ash Natural with the roasted maple neck. I was hoping someone might be able to give me some insight into the quality of the craftsmanship on these. Is it going to be comparable to my Mexi J? I haven't had the opportunity to get this in my hands yet, just wanted to go in with as much knowledge as I could conjure up in a short time. Thanks!

I'd say a Ray34 will likely be better quality than an MIM Fender.

Well, as it looks like this guy is here to stay, I figure I may as well join the club. I know that to some this may sound blasphemous, but can anyone suggest a way of attaching a pickguard in such a way that wouldn't permanently affect it? I love the top, and I understand that covering more than necessary may seem ridiculous, but I'd like to have the option of temporarily putting a pickguard on it for those times I want a slightly more classic stingray look, without any body-altering modifications. Safe adhesive options?

That thing is gorgeous! I wouldn't change a thing!

But if you're inclined to have a temporary PG, maybe something like this would work?

I wonder if there's a way to get a pickguard cut in a way that it mounts around the pickups using the pickup screws. That way you wouldn't need to drill any holes or use any adhesive. No idea if that is doable or if it could be easily done as the pickguard would have to be made custom.

Wow!!!!!

The only thing I can think of that could make that bass even MORE beautiful is one more string. :D. But, seriously, that's just beautiful.

Thanks all. It's an earlier BFR from 2008. Redwood top and mahogany neck. I think 50 were made with a single H and 50 with the HH.
No 5 strings I'm afraid. Those are actually pretty good suggestions. Not sure the pickup mounting screws would work, but I'll look into it. I do like the look of it, but there's just something about a stingray with the standard oval pickguard...purely an aesthetic preference, but nothing I'd want to make permanent.
