I guess I'm in the game here aswell, got my B00 '78 today, couldn't be happier! what a fantastic bass... Playabilty and tone really inspire and this one is light too 4,4 kg.. this will be my main gig bass for hopefully alot of years!
The bass had a refin in butterscotch/lemmon it was originally white, but it took ages to find rests of the original lacker co's even all cavities where nearly cleaned and refinned aswell, but the backside if the control plate gave it away;)

I like to make this bass as original as possible a few small hardware corrections does the trick... I need a new string tree and some strap buttons, and two small screws for the tuners... I have the impression that the current stringtree is the same as were used in the late 70s... As do the strap buttons Am I correct?

I am making plans to see this bass for sale. Its being sold as a 78 Ray with a replaced bridge, non original case and a 90s EBMM preamp replacing the original.

Does everything else look correct? Ball park value? I know mods to musicmans dont kill value as much as Fenders but missing the original preamp and bridge obviously make it worth less then the rays I see for $2000-$2500 around this age.

Looks awesome. The string tree is correct. It's hard to tell on a small pic if the strap buttons are correct however they look to me to be after-market strap locks.

Given the mods, I'd perhaps play a slight premium over the typical local used Stingray price only because I love the color.

Too bad you aren't still in the Portland area. I'm going to be selling my '83.

Are you looking at this one because of the age or just the color? The one big thing for me was the 2-band EQ as this one is a 3-band. Plus the loss of the mute bridge would be big thing for me. You could probably find the original parts on Ebay but you will pay a premium price.
