Music Man Stingray: What comes to mind?

I always tend to be put off by players using stingrays. Just an automatic response. I see a stingray and immediately disregard the player. Makes them have to be really good to bring my attention back. Just too many shoe gazers and unentertaining bass players using them. No offence im sure not everyone is like that just my initial reaction.

As already said:
P bass + J bass + Active pre = Stingray 4

Get pair of J bass coils, place 'em side by side under the cover (still wired parallel) get rid of tiny polepieces, locate pickup between P and J-bridge pickups. Add pre which colors a lot. And voila!

Not really an opinion just something ive noticed i do. Actually a friend who is really into them pointed it out. Not something i do on purpose. it just tends to work out to be my initial reaction.

When I think of Stingrays: the first thing that comes to mind is the old 2 band eq and a malpe board. Pure bliss to me.

If you need any convincing, then listen to Paul Denman from Sade or Bernard Edward of Chic, the best tone examples ever.

I can't believe shoe gazing was ever associated with StingRay players here. Never seen that before. Sounds like a closed mind to music styles to me.

Joe Lally comes to mind because he is magnificent and seeing his stingray was one of the first times I saw one.

Nathen Maxwell because that is my favorite stingray color combination ever.

Someone said No Doubt, and after reading a little bit, I came to realize their bassist uses the exact same setup Joe Lally did.

Ray > GK 800rb > Ampeg 810

My ideal setup would be this as well and I am on my way to it.

It was a nice bass alright but I'm glad I sold it and picked up a Godlyke Disciple instead
