If you're into DB I recommend an appt w/Steve Swan's place in Burlingame :bassist:

If you wander down to Santa Cruz (south of SF) I recommend Sylvan Music, but if time's limited it's kind of a pain to get to due to the big mountain range and crappy highway separating it from the rest of the greater SF Bay Area :hmm:

As far as west coast recommendations, I don't got any as I'm an east coaster too.

Instrument wise, there are a few MIM fenders at the bottom end of that price, but if I were traveling abroad, I would want something made in the country I visited... Don't know if that matters to you, but something else to consider.

Alright.. Thanks! Will definitely check our Guitar Center even if I'm not buying anything - it won't hurt to visit.(right? :P)

Actually im thinking of taking up a part time job so I could afford a bass that's slightly more costly. And I don't think I want a Fender unless it's a Jaco sig, I'm happy with my Marcus :D

DB as in double bass?

I think time is limited :/ well, actually it all depends on where my dad wants to visit! Can't wait for the long flight from Singapore :P

Cannot say too much for Vegas or Frisco but if you are in the LA area, there is plenty to see down on the Sunset Strip including the #1 Guitar Center with their "Rock Walk" and a good number of "Boutique" shops within walking distance of the GC. Across the street from GC is a Carvin showroom where they have a good assortment of basses on display that you can hold, touch, play, and they will probably cut you a really good deal and even ship it back to Singapore for you.

Since the OP is probably not as familiar with the USA, note that SF is (to the best of my knowledge) about a six hour drive from LA, so it's not an option to take lightly.

Now THAT sounds sweet! Ok, forgive me for asking this question, but.. Is LA near Vegas/San Fran? I know my American states but I just don't know how near/far they are!

He definitely wants to go to Vegas though. Hey do you think I could enter the casinos there? I'm turning 18 only in December and I won't be gambling but I just wanna see what its like in there!

I see! Thank you! Well, I'd very much like to go into the world of Double (Upright) Basses but I figured that I'd improve and get better on electric first. Besides, DB require different techniques and stuff - don't wanna learn the wrong things by myself!

I see.. Don't think we'd be driving long distances since Pops is the only one that can drive! In Singapore you have to be at least 18 to take up a driving license :scowl:

If we were to travel around the States we'd probably get a flight but those are pretty expensive, I've heard?

Not close to "Frisco" but closer (250 miles, approx.) to "Vegas." Los Angeles is definitely the place to go if you want that "Left Coast" experience. It where all the movie stars and rock stars live, after all! :D

And you haven't lived until you experience a 90 MPH bumper-to-bumper traffic jam on I-15 somewhere between Baker and the CA/NV state line! Been there, done that, bought the T-Shirt. Reliving the tension and adrenaline rush just thinking about it!

But since you are going to be in Vegas, you definitely want to check out the "World Famous Gold & Silver Pawn Shop" seen on the History Channel show "Pawn Stars!"
