Ditto. That's a good looking, v2.0 EBMM Sabre. I used to have one that looked like that, but with a rosewood board and clear pick guard. Great basses, I would go for it and get your Sabre Club Number pronto!

And she's mine! I talked to the shop owner on the phone today and he confirmed that it's a 1989 model. 3 band EQ, all original parts. Can't wait!!!

Have been back and forth about this one since I picked t up a few months back, but I've made total peace with it since picking up my BBBOD pedal recently - it really glues the sound of this bass together in such a pleasing way. I submit for your consideration a '13 Sabre Sledge. Love the finish, neck, and tone on this one, although it's a little on the heavy side at 10.5 lbs.

I've never actually gotten a club number before, but I'll happily take #42.

I've had a pre-EB Sabre neck for quite a while. I've been looking for a body for it. It will fit in a standard Fender neck pocket and from the looks of the extra screw holes in the neck heel someone had already installed in on a Fender style body so I tried it on an aftermarket P bass body for a while and it worked well enough, but I prefer a Sabre body...any ideas?

Good to see another Sabre Sledge owner here, as mine looks exactly the same (though, I've added a ramp and another layer of clear acrylic under the original pickguard, so as to minimize the distance between the bottom of the strings and the body near the neck.). Mine is a bit heavy, as well, but nothing a big padded Levy's can't solve. Welcome to the club, your number will be on its way!

Cool! I had a pre EB Stingray neck that I sat on for 20 years, while collecting up OEM hardware, before having a body made to complete the bass.

I have seen Sabre and 'Ray bodies come up on eBay before. Also, keep an eye on Reverb.

IMO, Sabre/'Ray necks look good on a Jazz body as well.

And she's in!

Just picked her up from UPS an hour ago. So far, cosmetic condition seems to be as good as I expected or better. After playing for a few minutes, it's obvious that the bass needs a major setup. The action is incredibly low such that there's a ton of fret buzz right now. Pots are also scratchy and fret ends are a bit sharp. Nothing that a good tech can't fix.

One thing that has surprised me so far is that this 3 band preamp has center detents on the EQ controls. I thought I read that Sabres haven't traditionally had center detents--maybe it's just the 3 band? Not a big deal either way of course, but it's helpful, especially for me since I'm used to passive basses and will have to learn the preamp.

Anyway, looking forward to getting her set up and plugging her into the big rig very soon! I'm going out of town tomorrow, but I promise better pictures outside in natural light when I get back.

I don't recall if the 3 band Sabre I owned had center detentes. That could be a question for the fellas over at the EBMM forum.

So easye's old black and maple Sabre Classic showed up on my doorstep yesterday and I'm smitten. I think this will be the four string that they bury me with. My old main 4 string is a HH Stingray and with these two basses I can cover so much ground it's ridiculous. Position 2 on the Sabre with coils 1, 2, & 3 is my new favorite sound. To me it feels like the classic stingray plus this really authoritative bump in the low mids that I didn't know I was missing until I heard it for the first time.

One thing that strikes me as odd though. It feels like the neck pickup is 6db down in volume when compared to the bridge. I think I remember a different sabre that I played in a store years ago being similar but can the Sabre Club help me out and confirm this?

I'm playing it with Nickle Rotosound Rounds that I'm enjoying. Positions 1,3,5 are all used quite a bit. I'm pretty glad I was able to get a new discounted after they got discontinued again.

I was procrastinating on some work I had to do last night, and ended up spending some quality time with my Sabre. For a while I was really convinced I would trade it for a Classic Stingray or a 5 string. Glad I didn't! It's a totally different voice than my P-bass, and really plays well with my octave pedal and overdrive (Aguilar Octamizer and Bearfoot 3BOD respectively).

On the hunt for a gated fuzz now to synth things out a little more, but the Sabre is such an interesting beast on its own. With a flick of the pickup selector, it can give more of a high-fi, open sound, or tighten things up Stingray style. And the 2-band EQ feels like its' voice slightly differently than the standard EBMM 2-band circuit. It's easy to appreciate the slightly downsized body and contours, too.

Doesn't hurt that it sparkles when the light hits it. It's well documented that I am easily distracted by shiny objects. Anyways, had a happy evening tone-wise and wanted to share.

I dont THINK it's voiced different. I think the tonal difference is the difference between the alnico and ceramic pickups.
