A couple local shops had a Strategy 400 sitting on the floor.
Run the stereo output from a Rick to the both inputs of that power amp and a couple cabs and you can actually play it.

It made me want a Rick for a couple months, then I got my driver's license and forgot about a lot of things.

So I went back to buy it when the price had dropped the second time and they refused to honor their sale. One salesman not even involved made a snide comment about my ability to buy a $130 amp.

So it was on.

This is part of a big chain. I called corporate in Texas and left a message. The regional manager returned my call and he wasn't happy about what they did. He said he'd take care of it and I got a call back shortly thereafter, apologizing for their behavior and said the amp was mine if I wanted it... for 30% off of $191, the current reduced price.

It was fun going back and getting that little rig (100 amp/ vertical 210) for $130. And the looks on the faces of the jaclasses who gave me crap was a nice touch too.

This was way out of the norm in my dealings with pawnshops. I normally get along great with them but when I explained a situaton as plain as this one was in the store and three people ask me what the problem was... Either they're playing dumb or they actually were. Now I'm guessing they just feel dumb. Good times.

Around 1995 I was cruising around Oakland thinking about buying my first handgun. My father had been issued a P228 for about forever but they were going to be replaced by P229's. I decided to hit a gun store in Oakland bc they had the last brand new P228 in the area. I go across the street to the pawn shop bc there is a Spector in the window. It's a quilted maple clear stained Brooklyn Spector.

I learned not to correct pawn shop employees bc that bass went right into the back after I played it.

When I went back across the street some guy bought the P228 for $550 and they were doing the paperwork.

I had a pile of $100 bills in my pocket and suddenly nothing to buy.

This proves the adages that " Good things happen to good people " ! - " GAS is eternal " and lastly , " Dr Cheese is highly unlikely to be able to keep to his promise to stay out of pawn shops for the next several months ! " We all know we'll be hearing again fairly soon about some other smoking deal he's found !!!!!! LOL .... Kelly

Wow very nice! Been listening to a bit of Tony Franklin of late and wouldn't mind a fretless to have fun with. Probably sound really cool with a little chorus and a ton of reverb
Was thinking of defretting a cheapie 5 string myself (never have done it). Congrats!

If the bass went through a few owners and they each find they don't play fretless that much, if each were willing to take a hit on what they paid for it the price could quickly drop. That's less likely to happen on a fretted bass. Fretless just has a smaller market. You'll see custom builders stating no returns on fretless basses in their return policy.

Great deal, you could have also followed the guy out to his car and said " How much do you owe on your Pedulla" and offered to give him $500 over ... you both would have won, I lost a bass to pawn when my wife had cancer. It sucked they gave me $150 for a Fender Frankenstein , I made 2 payments ($60) they had $90 in the bass and when they put it on the floor they wanted $1200, it hung there for 2 years I offered them $600 and they turned me down.
Your deal is amazing, though Congrats !!!

Nice score, Doc! I owned a pentabuzz for a little while and it even made me sound good on fretless.

One thing to check out is the truss rod. Make sure the nut is not stripped. There is a specific tool that is needed to make adjustments and of course that's the first thing people lose. As a result, I've heard of several cases of Pedullas with stripped truss rod nuts.

I think that is exactly what happened to this bass.
