My Day at D. Lakin basses

Man, there are countless people here who relentlessly bash Fender, daily.
But say ONE THING negative about "their brand", and we're naysayers, xenophobic, armchair bassists, unwilling to accept choices in market, think Lakin is a shiester, etc. etc. when for the vast majority taking even an inkling of exception or apathy re: these "new" basses these things were never the issue... it's so tired, cyclical nonsense.

As I've said already: I have no dog in this fight, I just think the whole thing is boring. BORING. OBVIOUS. Coattail riding for a buck. And it's my opinion. You don't like it? Fine by me.

all I am going to say is that I wish all luck to Dan, I will still be buying basses regardless of the place they are made as long as they are good. Lakin, Carvin, Fender experience are on my top list for next year, I dont really care for G&L.

I do not think anyone is doubting the build quality.
It is the price!
There are plenty of great basses made in Korea. But look at their price.
The new PRS SE series looks great and PRS quality is well known.
The SE Kestrel has a msrp of under $800.00

I don't think that's the case, at all. Nobody's knocking the quality. They're knocking the price for what is basically a P & J copy. They have similar specs to the Fender Classic & American Special series basses, but cost $2-400 more.

First off, In N Out is not ALL that...Wait, the fries are killer, never mind. Gimme a triple-double AND a Chicago Pizza.
Now to continue-
There's also the fact that G&L is a legacy factory of sorts, with many employees having been dedicated workers building instruments for years. They know what they are doing & care. Same as US Rickenbacker, same as EBMM.

Not a matter of "buy American" something we might think about IMO, but more a matter of buying from a dedicated company whose sole business is to make instruments bearing THEIR name on the headstock.
I've posted about my personal experience with the K** S**** B***** bass, if I wanted to hook up, the company would gladly produce "Classic69" branded basses, & I could embark on an effort to sell them.

Again- Nothing against the D Lakin venture; I hope he gets his market-share, and nobody is ramming these down a throat. I would def believe Ed's review, he is a stand-up guy who prolly would not touch the bass for a review if he didn't think it is worthy.

It is worthy. To me, there are other, and better choices.
Choice is good.

Wow. This comparison is great. I find these PRS SE basses a lot more interesting than the Fender clones that Dan is getting shipped over. It puts things into perspective for me at least.

IMO it's amusing that this thread was about D. Lakin basses and enthusiasm for them and time spent with the designer, now is about other things that people like. Yes I know there is a discussion about jazz/p clones but I feel like all the op wanted was to be excited about something, not disliked on. (mind you I know people are not being totally rude but...)

.... You're a fantastic player (seen your YouTube videos) and now you gotta rub this in my face..... Yep, I hate you. ;-) .......Sorry, jealousy got the best of me.

Has anyone seen Ed Friedlands new P Bass Mashup video? He plays the Lakin and a bunch of other P's. For my tonal goals the Lakin just too big, loose & undefined. Maybe it was just his choice of strings but it was easily my least favorite of the bunch.

Still I'd like to try one. I love the idea of the wide 1.75" nut and 10" fingerboard radius (if that's what they are) on the Glaub.

Seriously? The new Lakin basses are at a price point that puts them in direct competition with Carvin and G&L.

The narrative naturally swings that way as players consider what else is available for the same money.

What I see as phenomenal, are the extreme fanboy posts by some, and the relentless rehashing of the Bass #1 mishap by others. Both are way over-stated and extreme IMO. But, such is the nature of Talkbass, eh.

Haha, really? You left out the half of my post, where I provided the basis for my opinion. Meanwhile, your post provided no context--and yet you're apparently convinced it's fact. (It ain't, unless you've personally weighed all G&Ls for the last 20 years.) Accountability, indeed.:D

Here are the recent words of a G&L dealer with a TB forum. They certainly support the notion that weight continues to be an issue for G&L.

I did recently notice that G&L has been including the weight of every bass on their "available list" now. That's a list of ready-to-ship instruments that gets emailed to dealers periodically. So I can now make an informed decision about which instruments to grab. I LOVE that, no more 12 pounders in my store! LOL

Funny, I've never thought of In n Out as overpriced.. I get out of there with more $$ left in my wallet than I do at pretty much any other fast food chain.. and it tastes better than all of them! You see what a "$6 burger" costs at Carls Jr. these days?
