My drummer is pissing me off

During a practice? That would make you leave? The ten seconds it takes guitard to do the opening riff to that song is nothing compared to the 15 minutes the drummer's objections would take, if he hadn't put his sticks down and walked out. Didn't hear me bitching when I was trying to talk about a song and bongo boy decided now was the perfect time to work on the drum solo from Moby Dick. :rolleyes:

Well, if you were my drummer and you did this I'd tell you the same thing I told my drummer. "This one's a freebie, do it again and you need to pack your kit out with you. ;)

In this situation? Yes. You did ask them what last song they wanted to do, and the guitarist decides he'd rather screw around than do anything constructive with the last few minutes left. My time is precious, I don't want to spend it listening to him noodling around.

I don't know how it is in St. Louis, but do you really think it's that easy for someone who has been unemployed for a while to just go and get a 9-5 job? I understand you're just ranting, but c'mon...

I feel your pain though, kinda. My drummer likes to pop vicodins and drink at shows, and then screws up all night. We gotta find new drummers.

I get what you're sayin, but in all of my experiences when girls or friends come into the room, a rehearsal becomes more of a "performance" for the people who are there watching....
Which is fine, because, yes, you need to rehearse tightly and be prepared for gigs when hundreds of hotties are in the crowd, we've all had friends come check out our band at rehearsal etc, but seems like it would take a lot away from the communication between members of the group, or people trying to look cool in front of their girlfriends, one-upping eachother, trying to make a scene, etc.

Just IMO, YMMV

And it sounds to me like the change in the drummer's work schedule has affected the OP's wife's coming to practice schedule thus creating more tension than needed in the group...this really stuck out to me:

Man I feel you guys. The drummer in my band is amazing at drums but I've come to the conclusion he is socially ********. He's always cancelling practices because he says his work (target) does not give him weekly schedule and therefore has to cancel practices. Also, he doesn't tell ANYONE in the band that he will not be there. So a lot of the times everyone shows up and we're all waiting for him until he picks up the phone. Another thing...he will never EVER answer your frist or second call or text. You need to piss him off for him to respond to you. No one in the band considers him a friend. The only reason why we keep him around is because he's a good drummer.

Maybe you misunderstood. I don't begrudge anyone getting a job. This is washing dishes in a bar 3 nights a week. Friday, Saturday and Sunday. For like $7 an hour, 4 hours a night. He has a kid and is on welfare ( of some type). If he doesn't get enough from his Gubmit check, maybe he should try something that pays more than $ 84 a week. ;)

I guess I wouldn't mind too much, but my sister will be at this party we are playing this weekend and I want to do this song for her and I want to do it well.

Aren't the lyrics printed in the booklet or on the album sleeve? Just look them up and say "See, I told you so."

It's never been a problem for us if the other person there isn't really being intrusive and we know them well. The guitarist's girlfriend is sometimes around studying for exams and such. My girlfriend has come sometimes. We usually just ignore the other people present.

We practice at my house, where my wife lives. I thought that was obvious from the opening post.

The women do not interfere with us, my point was that my wife is obliged to entertain, unless she wants to just leave the poor girl sitting by herself in the living room for 4 hours.
